HI GUYS,

Here is the problem: engine will start in the morning(cold)9 celsius around, with 3-4 crank turn but as soon as the engine warms up and i shut it off, it is acting like the glowplug wouldn't work, takes 8-9 crank turn to start back... but start everytime! so far i have check : glowplug system, shut off solenoid, air leak, injection timing, glowplug timing ecu, coolant sensor, glowplug relay, changed all filters, crank and cam timing, compression sits at 520lbs on each cylinder , so i know the glowplug system and injection timing are ok.......what can it be? why only when hot? :censor:

yes i did, on the heating system everything is fine....is there a way to test the fuel pump for proper pressure, might be discharging when engine get warm?

What is the smoke like when it first starts?

If the smoke is much the same between a cold and hot start then for some reason your engine is turning 8-9 turns with out injecting when hot. If it starts with a larger cloud of smoke when hot then your engine is turning 8-9 times and injecting but still not starting (which points to a low combustion temp issue, which means glowplugs or compression).

79 series

weird I just had a 2004 hzj79 and HAD THE EXACT SAME ISSUE!!! super annoying. I sold the truck to my friend and pretty sure he fixed the issue asap. I will ask him and get back to u asap.

funny how its only happening on the newer 79 mine trucks...

Guys,
You are getting me worried. Right now I have none of this drama. I haven't had to glow my engine before starting since I swapped out my B engine for the HZ. Just hop in and turn the key and she's ready to roll. HOWEVER, in a few months I'll be headed back to the U.S. and you guys ar getting me worried about cold starts etc. again. I'll be following this thread to see the resolution.:frown:

Did you check the injectors? You could pull the inj pump off and send it out to have checked out.

please email me or call or pm me with the results.....i own a toyota dealership but at 100$ my certified tech is costy!!!!but if i need to sell the damn dealer to find the problem i will....so far 8 hours of measurments to make sure heating system and injection are ok .....anyway let me know!

Try priming before starting. Make sure the primer is pumped till tight. Check all hoses and clamps...a little air will screw things up.

I installed a clear hose from primer to pump to ensure that there was no air in the system, and carry a replacement for this part just in case.

Winter and 12 volts
As for cold weather starting our 79's start well to -30 without being plugged in, if in doubt get a block or inline heater for the winter.

i have bypassed the primer pump with a 12 volt e;ectric pump and installed all clear hoses and there is no air leaks, plenty of fuel,i think now everything is pointing to the injection pump....i will remove it and have it bench tested. will let you know results.

I would ask how many miles on the engine, I am assuming it is a 1HZ, if it has a lot of miles it is a good chance you have low pressure on startup in the Injector pump this would be common for a VE pump that has a problem with the Head.

Cheers,

Michael
