While dreaming about one day owning a HZJ77 I was looking up some pics and found myself wondering if the center console would fit into the wife's BJ71. Has anyone tried this before? Thoughts?

The hzj77 centre console is a lot better than the BJ70 one but it's still not great. The compartment is small and way to low for use as an arm rest. Having cup holders is nice but they are shallow and a tad small.

One on those things that's annoying enough for me to complain about it from time to time but not annoying enough for me to do something about it.

Well, as luck would have it my old man showed up with a present for the wife, CUP HOLDERS!!! Lol He had some leftover birch plywood from a different project and wanted to do something nice for the wife's new rig. He knows that she likes her coffee and was missing some cup holders so he decided to build some for her! I think it turned out nicely and the wife loves them. As of now I just have them set in place with some velcro strip. If it needs more I will deal with it later.

Mr Tibbs - the cupholder looks really nice! I came upon this thread while looking for ideas for cupholders and center consoles.

As I don't have the truck yet, I was wondering if you can tell me what's inside the OEM center console? I'll likely build a new unit that will integrate a center console, armrest and cupholders and iphone holder. Do you happen to know if you're in 2nd or 4th gear in these photos? Will have to be mindful of total height...

Thanks!

I believe that pic was taken with the shifter in second gear. Inside the center console is the rear heater. It takes up almost all of the room in the center console. If I can be of more help just let me know!

Thanks! As you may or may not have read, I just bought a 74 but it is in Vancouver and I won't be picking it up until early Feb. As it'll be the start of a ~5k mile journey, sorting out the cupholders is near the top of the important TO DO List!

I will likely build a new center console once I decide whether to keep or eliminate the rear heat. It looks like there might be space for another cupholder b/w the tcase shifter and the e-brake.

I'd ideally like to have 4 of them up there, that seems to be the magic number for my lovely wife and I. One coffee mug and one water bottle per person. On the 100 series we used the old bike-bottle holder screwed into the center console trick:

I do like how the HZJ setup does a nice job tying all the componentry together. We'll have to see just how fancy I decide to get!

Rear seat ..... Remove , leave in?
The rear seats fold up neatly against the front seats and take up very little space. In this configuration, the seats are there and usable vs sitting in your garage somewhere.
Even with a dozen cup holders, I highly recommend lids on all of your cups. (The BJ74 is not known for it's smooth ride)

Can you post a photo of your center console? In the photo above (post #1), the console looks very similar to the one in my BJ74.
Thanks....
