Hi guys,

I'm after a replacement steering wheel and handbrake for my HZJ73 in grey.

Does anyone know of any suppliers?

Thanks,

A handbrake, which part?

You can use a Hilux steering wheel. There maybe some modification but it was very easy I was told.
But surely you could just use parts in Australia from other 7* series?

It's mainly the handbrake handle that has deteriorated and I would like to tidy the interior up a bit.
I was hoping to find some NOS parts.

I don't think you can buy the plastic grip ,you have to buy the whole assembly
part number 46210-60081-03 (the 03 is the grey colour)

Steering wheel 45100-60190-03 grey.

You can go 2 ways if you want new, down to the dealer. Or put these part numbers on their own into google and see what it throws up. There are international parts dealers that get their parts cheaper direct from outlets in Japan that come up cheaper than Australia. But the shipping might outweigh the benefits.

I got this from megazip for the lever
Purchase US $67.77
Delivery from Japan US $25.12
Total amount due US $92.89

Steering wheel
Purchase US $290.70
Delivery from Japan US $73.22
Total amount due US $363.92

Anybody know how well a 91-94 80 series steering wheel (3-spoke) fits? I'm pretty sure it'll bolt on but I'd like to know if spacing between the steering wheel and turn signal lever/stalks are similar to stock. Return to center, turn signal cancellation work? Horn work?

16-1/8" 1988 BJ74 steering wheel diameter
15-3/8" 91-94 80 series diameter (unconfirmed mud measurement)

I replaced my typical ratty japanese aftermarket wheel with one from a 1st Gen 4Runner. IIRC, it was $25 from Jim's Yota Parts. It fits great. Only modification needed was to enlarge the hole in the plastic column cover slightly.

Wheel diameter is ~ 15-3/4". Horn and turn signals work perfectly and I've never had any issue reaching the stalks.

@hoser,

I put an early 80-series steering wheel on my BJ70 and it fits well (I like it a lot actually). The spacing between the wheel and the turn signal lever is similar to stock, the return to center is the same as stock, BUT, the turn signals don't cancel when the wheel returns to center and the horn doesn't work right off the bat. You need to modify the contact on the steering column as the contact ring on the 80-series wheel is smaller (or larger, one of the two) than the stock 70-series wheel. The turn signals not cancelling was never a big deal for me.

The wheel will fit just like the stock one would, but you need to trim a little off the plastic steering column cover as the 80-series wheel doesn't have a shoulder like the 70-series wheel does (similar to what @The Eradicator showed on the previous post, but maybe even less trimming required).

Hope this helps,

@The Eradicator That's definitely a good, appropriate substitute. Trimming the plastic wouldn't be a big deal.

@AlbertoSD Thanks! I'm not sure if the lack of turn signal cancel would annoy me or not. I wonder if there is a way to make it work.

Thanks for those part numbers, I will see what I can find.
I have seen one locally without the centre horn pad so I might be able to go down this path if the horn pad is available as a separate part.
