Hi, I have a 1991 Toyota Land Cruiser Hzj73.
1HZ engine and A440f transmission

Had a lot of troubles with the 1hz engine in her have rebuilt injectors injector pump new head radiator power steer pump front and rear diffs transmission paint and more. There isn’t much left to do and everything was rebuilt with terrain tamer parts and genuine parts.

The 1hz engine has since blown another head long story, But I have decided I am going to put the 1hd-t engine in her. Have brought a motor out of a 80 series.

Does anyone know What additional parts are needed for the engine to go in? Any links to forums and more information would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers
Dannie

Kind of wondering why the hz was so much trouble? It is considered a million km engine.
Honestly the garage it went too is where the problem started. The mechanic who did the work on my vehicle and multiple others was let go. Radiator cracked the garage sent it away and they just repaired it. Radiator cracked again. New radiator compression test sweet as. Temperature came up above halfway took it in 4 times the mechanic then advised head was crack. New head mechanic didn’t fit the little metal elbow in the head properly blew out dump its coolant. They fixed there problem apparently. Transmission was getting tired so I had it fully rebuilt it sat in the shed for 18months took it for a drive wasn’t running right took it to another garage couple hours away. They pulled it apart and it was starting with water in the cylinder cracked head again. A lot of money wasted for no reason.

I have been impressed by the hz. Can still get a brand new head from toyota. Personally, I would choose between hz or hdfte. But seems you have the direction decided.

So have I done me well it hasn’t left me stranded on the side of the road apart from what as happened. Yeah going in the direction of the 1hd-t. Have a 80 with the 1hd-ft in her.

A 12 valve hdt is a weekend swap system for system into a hz platform.
Ideally a walbro etc fuel pump for smaller supply lines. Hz stock are 10mm. New hz are 11mm and best hdfte are 12mm
The exhaust hook up unless you have hdj79 exhaust piece and primary pipe (then all bolt up)
You will need a vacuum/turbo water pipe from hdj79 that bolts UNDER the upper timing cover.
I have no clue on auto transmission hook up.
But wiring etc is identical.

Hello,

Throw in an H151F transmission for your 1HD engine. If possible, get the one that came with the 80 Series engine you bought.

For anyone who wants to know All done and in, looking tidy went in without any trouble bolted straight up to the auto runs and drives nice. Massive difference in power like driving a completely vehicle. Feels like it has more pick up than the 80 with the FT in it. Should of taken photos of the process but didn't.

Hey mate, about to do the exact same, any hidden obstacles you ran into? I've heard about the fuel lines being different sizes, was this an issue? Any other insights would be appreciated. Cheers.

Do like @rick_d said above, and put more fuel pump (pressure) to it. Or you can replace fuel lines with larger size. The extra power requires extra fuel- you really won't hurt anything being short on fuel (like you would on a gasoline engine), but you won't realize the power potential either.
