I just installed hydro assist. I have one end attached to the axle housing and the ram side not attached to the tie rod. It is free to go in and out. As I was filling and bleeding the system I only can get the ram to push out as I turn to the right. When I turn to the left the ram stays pushed all the way out until I reach full lock to the left and the system builds pressure. Then it pulls it all the way in. Is this operating correctly? Do I need to bleed it more? Seems odd to me it will only go one way. I would think it would go both ways as I turn the wheel. Does it sound like I got a problem?

I did not have that trouble when I first installed mine. I did prime both sides of the cylinder and lines before hooking it up though. I would disconnect everything and prime it then try again. I primed it by manually pulling the cylinder to one side then kepth the fitting full of fluid as I slowly moved it to the other side. then reversed for the other side. spilled some fluid but the system ran great from the start.

I have mine set with the fittings up on the ram to help in getting air out as well.

You may be able to cap the fittings at the box then use the PS box to cycle the ram side to side (without the engine running) with the ends of the lines in a carton of PS fluid. Try hooking it back up when the bubbles stop?

Thanks Bret.
Well I connected everything up. Connected the ram to the tie rod and turned the wheel left and right with the wheels on the ground with engine running and it seems to be working. I can turn the wheel with my pinky finger. I don't remember ever being able to do that. So I think it is functioning properly.

Hydro oil will take the easiest path, so that's into the box push the cylinder in the box and back to tank.

That is until the box has bottomed out and now pushing the ram is easiest.

The reason you had it moving 1 way but not the other before is pison reaction are differences.

Everything you have described is perfectly normal

Great. Thanks Zoltan!
