You saw me show up with pre-purchase questions, but ended up buying this truck.

1998, 2.7. 5 speed, 122k miles, clean carafe, evidence of regular and frequent oil changes. Tow package with brake, all electrical work, super clean inside and has been owned by a series of apparently loving owners. New steering rack, new rear shocks, 1 new rear CV axle.

PPI turned up low compression (120) on cylinder #1. Seems to run pretty well other than a little bit of a rough idle which the seller said had always been there. Mechanics thought it was an exhaust valve issue, but of course couldn't be certain. t was able to get the price down by $2000 to compensate and will probably get the repair done since the truck is for my son and would like to feel really confident about reliability.

I'm interested in what you guys are doing for baselining. Thinking fluid flushes etc. What else?
Can't seem to upload the pic for some reason but it is also here: thoughts on a potential purchase?

Thanks. Coolant looked really clean in the PPI. The right pink stuff too. Still flush? Plugs and tune up for sure. Thoughts on gas octane? Pretty sure it's been on a diet of 92 for at least the last few years with the previous owner.

If its clean toyota coolant its great stuff, and leave it. I would just run regular octane. You could flush the brake and clutch fluid.

thanks for the heads-up. Just called the shop to have it done and they'd already done it since the head was off and it was easily accessible.

How about a Turbo while your in there?
