My 2000 LC 100 (about 146K miles already) hums when I reach 3,000 RPM (around 90mph). Once I decelerate, the humming sound goes away. Seems to be from the transmission or is this normal ? Otherwise, LC is ok if I don't reach up to 80mph or 3K RPM. Is this something to worry about my transmission ? Thanks,

2000 + transmission noise? Get ready for the hawks to say it's going to blow up. When was the last time you checked the ujoints and such?

As far as I know, ujoints have not been checked. All maintenance every 7,500 miles and a major one at 90K were done with the Toyota dealer. Thanks for your reply.

i sometimes get a vibration/hum at around 75mph/2500-2700rpms. i think for me, it's one of those rpm+speed kinda deals that sends a vibration through the vehicle because it goes away if I drive above or below 75mph. I don't worry too much about it - just figure it's one of those vehicle personality things.

i'd get EVERYTHING lubed up fresh just to kinda see if any of that helps, if not, you're a step up on maintenance.

btw...your rig at 90mph is only turning 3k rpms? mine's somewhere like 3300-3500rpms and it really drains the tank fast.

90 MPH

All i have to say is - 90 mph?

Thank you all for your feedback, I have been watching the forum for about as long as I had my LC100 for 4 years now, watching you guys and decided to join the forum because of great learnings here ! Thanks very much to the group and more power !

Yes, highonpottery, 3300 to 3500 rpm at 90mph would be more accurate.

I guess I focused more on the rpm when it started to hum which I am sure was at 3,000 rpm and I accelerated some more if it will go away up to 90mph, but it did not, and turned my eyes off the rpm which is of course moving up also, my mistake. At a slightest deceleration below 3,000rpm say 2,900rpm, the hum went away immediately.

By the way, I don't do this often, only at I-5 going to LA or at 580, when the freeway is clear and there are no cops.

My dream is to someday drive from SFO to Colorado to bring my LC to Slee and have all the upgrades I have been seeing in this forum !

Its not far, you can do the drive very quickly actually. I know where all the cops hide along the way too!

gears

I have 4.88 gears which put you near stock RPM w/ 35" or slightly lower geared w/ 33's.

Do you have a gear set to bring his RPMs back into the sweet spot. ;)
