Has anyone with a 62 tried 80 series 3FE intake boots? HPS makes silicone boots but lists them for an 80 series 3FE. Cityracers website says that there’s a difference between the 62 3FE and 80 3FE intake hoses.
Does anyone know what the difference is?

The difference is the angle and length. I would recommend the City Racer Hose 1 and OEM Hose 2, they are worth it to have another 20 years of trouble-free

On this subject, I wonder why Toyota designed the accordion-style ribs into the 3FE intake duct. With everything I've been taught about laminar airflow in my aircraft maintenance days with with the HVAC training I've done, the OEM accordion style would create turbulence in a location where you would want as close to laminar airflow as possible.

I'd bet laminar flow is not as important as dealing with vibration between engine and chassis in that spot

Very likely actually, plus given the fact that reinforced silicon tubing like the HPS wasn't financially feasible in the consumer market in the late 80s.

I hadn't considered the potential vibration issue.
