trying to see if I should buy a custom offroad trailer.

Nicely done otherwise, but unfortunately, the very nice heavy duty fenders are only 9" wide off the body and have a lip that has already in fact cut badly one of the (stupidly wide and spacered 33") tires, presumably on full articulation. The circular fender radius may also be too small for a 33 which would suggest contact at the front or back. Not obvious I could find a large diameter tire as in a 33 that is skinny enough to alleviate this partially and would still usefully fit the 80 as extra spare. I may go smaller tire which kind of ruins it as extra spare. Or I may need to widen the fenders or lift the trailer up if I can't find a tire that fits. Or is there a good 8"x33" tire out there?

What I'm wondering is how wide most of your offroad trailer fenders are out there, like the 416, 101Cnd etc.

Best / easiest way to widen the fenders? I would not want to cut them up besides possibly the lip.

Or just put in bumpstops and forget the good articulation? Not really needed for a trailer I guess. Maybe that's the best way to go...

mmm.... then again, I could go 31s since it's unlikely I'll ever need them and if do in an emergency I can probably manage without lockers...

thoughts?

255 is 10". The tread area would need to be much thinner if not 10" too.

I don't want to have to redo completely the fenders. But maybe fix somehow a split tube on the lip so no cutting. Contact would still be an issue though. Glued rubber would shear off, metal hard to affix, maybe glued rubber with bolts or rivets?. Teflon stops under the fender itself? Heck, couple of casters :) ?

Can you do a springover on the trailer?

no, they're already up there.
well, I see you went smaller tires on the trailer, though. That's of course one possibility. How wide are the fenders on yours?

The trailer tire size is P225/75-R15. They're 28.5" in diameter. That's a bit smaller in diameter than the original 7.50x16 jeep tires and rims (shown above). But they're wide. At max articulation they might have struck the fender lip. There's no way that's going to happen with the springover. I did not chose these tires for the trailer. The original tires were shot, and I swiped these off another trailer. They're trailer tires and are rated far in excess of any loads this trailer could possibly hold. At some point I want to go to a tire with very heavy treat and heavy lug sidewalls to make sure tey don't get cut up by rocks. Some of the "gravel roads" I drive on are "paved" with sharp four inch rock. So far that's not been a problem, since I crawl over those areas in 4-low.

so nobody knows (or cares) how wide their 416/101 fenders are?

seems like bumpstops is the easiest. Would only lose the 1" worth of lip in articulation if I do it right.

I still can't have the tire extend past the edge of the fender in California I would suspect though. (Although strangely enough I believe you don't need any fenders at all if it's less than 1000 (or is it 1500?) lbs.)

Well, not an M416 or CDN M101, but my M100 fenders are 9" wide.

Can't have the tires extend past the fenders here, either, but the cops must be nearsighted. I've never had a problem.

not a milspec trailer, and I do care about the fit tween fender and tire, but my build is on hold agin due to more pressing concerns.

I'm putting longer shackles on to raise the trailer. PhotoGod is using 1.5" thick tube to make shackle hangar spacers, as seen on another mud members build.

Is you trailer level with your truck?
