How to tell difference between OME Heavy/Medium (1 Viewer)

No I'm not asking which I should buy so don't flame me for not searching yet.


Is there a way to for sure (ie measurement, part number) tell if a spring is medium or heavy load, while installed on a truck? (springs are a year old, no more stickers or labels on them).

OME heavy rear springs have static load of 200Kg so if you're or someone else (assuming < 200lbs) sitting on the tail gate and the rear does not seem to sag then they're heavies. No science involves here but this is what I would do.

There are stickers on the springs when they are new, but anybody's guess if you can find a sticker on a used spring.

The best thing I can tell you is to look at the vehicle height with the weight that's in it. Since that is all that matters, what the ride height NOW. They could have been medium or heavy springs a year ago, but with lots of loading/towing, etc, they could settle to whatever, so knowing what they were new might not be that important.

If with minimal weight (no aftermarket rear bumper, stock sized spare, etc), the rear does not need the trackbar modified to look correct (center the axle under the vehicle) then they aren't OME heavy springs IMO.

on a patrol the heavy duty springs were thicker, we have not installed yet on a cruiser so i cannot tell maybe thicker also.

Medium coils are 18mm bar and heavies are 20mm for the rear, even the 3". The front are a little different but basically 2" and 3"(J) are all 17mm.

If you measure the truck F & R, and figure out what lift it has compared to stock, you can then measure the diameter of the spring bar and figure out which springs you have. Of course they will settle some, so either way it will be an educated guess.
