I have one of the Garmin locking dash docks for my Garmin GPS that was placed on the dash of my FJ Cruiser by the PO. I do not like where it is at. This dock has the double sided adhesive on it. Anyone know how I can remove this without scratching or messing up the dash? It looks like this:

I've found that the best way to remove adhesive is use some sort of oil....WD-40,PAM, margarine, salid oil, anything that won't eat up the materials that it's stuck to. WD-40 has a solvent, as do most of the 'spray-oils' so be careful with that stuff if it's on the dash material. Then a little mild detergent and water to get rid of the oils.

I am worried about messing up the dash with a solvent.

You can try the old dental floss, hair dryer method. Use the hair dryer to soften the adhesive and use the dental floss like a saw to cut through the adhesive.

Works good on emblems and doesn't scratch the paint.

Fantastic. I never thought of that

you can try some mild solvent like mineral spirits but avoid harsher stuff like laquer thinner. Don't ask me how I know...

how amout a hypo and a few cc's of goof-off?

x2 on running the floss under it or if your careful you can use a razor blade

Get abottle of GooGone. It has a lemony smell, but hates glue and will not mess up your upholstery or plastic.:D

The floss worked like a champ./ It didn't mess up the dash plastic and it cut through the adhesive pack like a saw (took about 15 minutes and a lot of floss). No damage to anything. Thanks for the suggestion.
