One of the things I miss the most on my Hundy was it said "Land Cruiser" across the back in large, easy to read letters. My 2015 200 just has this big ugly chrome thing on the back that matches all the Highlanders and Sequoias running around.

My rig is Magnetic Gray Metallic - so looking for something complementary

Three options I have considered:
  • Vinyl wrap on chrome trim, cut around letters to expose the chrome
  • Plastidip chrome trim, rub off letters to expose the chrome.
  • Vinyl the letters, leave the chrome be chrome
  • Get the chrome piece painted color matched to the truck with letters masked off.
    • Color matching Magnetic Gray is very hard it would seem, so this option is somewhat off the table.
What have you guys done to address this?

I popped mine by unpopping it.

Every time you post pictures of my old rig I miss it!!!! Need to do something to my new one ASAP!

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED! :hillbilly:<hehe

But seriously... It was a great looking truck.

I like that. Might have to try that on mine (same gold color). That looks gunmetal or dark bronze or something which IMO looks better on the gold/tan truck than pure black (which to me seems to stand out as much as chrome)

@Markuson How did you do that in the back? Looks great.

If you are referring to the black with chrome letters… That truck was owned by @codyaustin5 .
I can’t remember if he used vinyl or plasti-dip.
Maybe he will chime in here… And I agree, it looked fantastic. For me, it doesn’t really matter because my hatch chrome is completely obscured by my spare and other swing out items .

Dip, vinyl, or something else?

Looks good!
I posted in more detail on my build thread I believe. But essentially plastidip the whole thing and then use a toothpick to pick out the letters. The trick is letting the plastidip set for a month or 2 so it’s easier to pick the letters out.

Wow. A month or two... Wonder if that could be sped up by “baking” in a really-low-heat convection oven or something...

I reached out to TVD Vinyl as they do great work (it appears) on other vehicles by making emblems "pop" some...here is an example of a 4Runner:

He responded that he doesn't have a template for the Land Cruiser but is more than willing to generate these if he could get an emblem to look at...

Any takers in the Orange County, CA area??

I like that. I wonder what it would take to get a template done?

My take is that he just needs an emblem to take measurements. With exponentially more Tundras and 4Runners roaming around vs the Cruiser, he just hasn’t had the opportunity to make one like he can for the others. He has quite a few color options so my goal would be to match the Magnetic Grey on my Cruiser.

Finally completed a few small cosmetic mods on my LC200 to offer a personal homage to some Land Cruiser heritage:
1) grill change for a glimpse of the FJ60 grill lettering (hints of LC300 grill too)
2) side badge from the FJ40
3) color matched chrome emblem in back for letters to pop like either the LC100 or the LC300

I have it on my truck. Not super noticeable, but better than before.
