what resistor did you useI just pulled the vacuum hose off the egr to disable mine, then put a resistor on the heat sensor connecter to trick the ECM into not throwing a code. Works like a charm. I definately noticed a slight power and mileage increase and better throttle response.
I have had no problems with detonation so far, even with my timing advanced to about 7 or 8 degrees. The engine definately runs smoother without having hot inert exhaust being dumped into it.
Some might argue that the egr system is there for some other reason than to lower emissions.
It isn't. The EGR system is there to lower NOX to meet federal emission standards and nothing more.
I guess this doesn't answer your question about block off plates, just thought I would share my solution and 2 cents...
