I'm new to the Springs and posted an introduction here.

https://forum.ih8mud.com/co-colorado-land-cruisers/71342-make-introduction-2.html

I would like to learn some trails and I know I missed a chance this morning but I found out too late and decided to take off the factory rack. I'm going to patch and paint in the morning and hopefully take the family for an outing in the afternoon. Are there any books that describe some area trails and have ratings?

We were thinking of taking off Thanksgiving and go exploring/camping for four days. Recommendations would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Leon

nice choice on the lx 450. you may not be doing anything extreme yet, but i am guessing you will be once you find out how well that 2.5 kit and 305 tires are going to work with the factory lockers. that thing will be a beast. I also agree on the guide to colorado trails, and put that together with either a good trail map(available at local book stores), or check out some of the 4wheeler dealers, they usually carry forest service maps. good luck trail hunting, thats where the fun begins!

Guys thanks for the welcome and information, I'll look up the book and check out some local shops.

Welcome,

Any ideas on where you are planning to go tomorrow?

I'm not sure, maybe up the Rampart area since it's close.

.... that 2.5 kit and 305 tires...

Actually, the tires I just put on are 285's the Discoverer STT, not quite as beasty...

Just came back from Eagle Rock (see the Wells book). It is the most difficult, close trail to us (that I know of). We're getting close to the end of the season. Already some ice on the trail... it will probably be unpassable as soon as the first "real" snow hits.

There are quite a few trails in the Buena Vista area that are fun to run.

You can visit any of these sites:
Main Page - Dirtopia, the Off-Road Encyclopedia (newer, but has more potential)
4x4Trails.net (long running site, may not be 100% up to date)
TrailDamage.com (Good info, but ratings may be a little off)

Those will definitely get you started. Keep in mind that trails change quickly in CO with weather & seasons, so the descriptions may not be 100%. The advantage of Dirtopia is that anyone can update the trail, so it SHOULD be more up to date.

Welcome & I hope to see you on the trail :)
