Hi all, I went off road last weekend and got the engine bay nice and muddy. I haven’t had a chance to clean it all week and now I’m noticing my alternator “singing.” What is a safe way to clean my muddy alternator?

spray degreaser, rinse"softly" with hose (like its raining) if its still muddy, get in there with a small brush or hand broom and rinse again.

just did this from my sunday mudding.

Wondering if Id spray a can of QD Electonic cleaner before spraying water-& degreaser.

I use a pressure washer, keeping the water moving, while the engine is running.

Some may say I like to live dangerously. I like to say I want this s*** off my engine and I want it off now. Yet to have a negative experience with a 2UZ and a pressure washer.

Same here. I use my pressure washer on my 270k mile 2UZ multiple times per year and don't bother masking anything. I keep it moving and never stay still on a connector. Seems to work wonderfully. On this engine, I think any problem induced by careful pressure washer cleaning is a problem that would exist in a water crossing or heavy rain driving. If a problem pops up, fix it and continue spraying down that engine bay! :)

My engine bay was so bad last time that I was too ashamed to take a picture...
I gave a thorough low pressure rinse to everything, and called it good enough. the mud will dry, and then come off on its own from vibration. Or so I rationalize.

My top idler pulley was squeaking but it went away after a couple of day interestingly.
