How much would I loose if I sold my 80?

Price it according to what you wouldn't regret EVER having took for it, and don't let someone haggle you down.

I have a very decent BMW E30M3 (the real M3), and I'd send it packing waaaaaaay before I gave up the 'Cruiser keys. Only 5,000 of those made it to America, to give you an idea of the rarity of a 1st gen M3.

The dent in your wallet for gas is more than made up for by the reliability of the 80 series in the longer term.

I thought I saw a similarly built (minus the subtank) 80 that sold in the for-sale section recently. I think it listed for $16k.

So, for you, I'd say you're in the $16-19k range (since you've go the bigger 6" lift, regear, subtank, etc...but no sliders).

The whole issue with selling my 80 it is to get away from a part of my life that brings me down. I don't know if in selling it that things will be any different or easier. I think that has always been my internal struggle which boils over every now and then and I get the urge to sell.

I think I will be listing it for sale, not tonight but in the next week or so. I would like to get $16k for it, negotiable depending on the buyer I suppose. Is that a realistic price?

I know a lot of you guys think I'm in the wrong place asking a pricing question here (especially since I'm a "car dog") but I would like to know what someone feels is a fair price after recently purchasing an 80. Otherwise looking at what CL, ebay, dealers, etc list them for is a huge crap shoot, not to mention trying to figure out what they actually sold at. Hence the true issue with KBB values. ;)

Does being the only 40th at Toyota's 50th add anything?? (I don't think it really would) Did the museum actually keep that registry from the event?

I think $16k is a fair asking price. I also believe there is a buyer willing to pay that as well.

I don't think you can sell it Ben. I've regetted building up my second 80 since completing it. It's awesome but it really should have been another 100 I built up. TOO LATE. Now I have this sweet '97 ready for the trail and I want to sell it. CAN'T! I can't get enough of the investment back and giving it away for $10-13K is not the answer.

Since, I've faced reality and am really glad I have the thing and even moreso each day. It will last me my lifetime and get me to some places another build (like a 100) will not. These things are classics...don't give it away unless you financially need to Ben...you'll regret it. For now, Becky takes it out during bad whether. That keeps her safer...another perk of having it around. Then...when that day comes you need a mega-wheeler to take out...you have the keys!

can I borrow $16K 2 0%APR for an undisclosed amount of time please? Please wash it and leave the tanks full.

I think you can get at least 16k for it if its an well taken care of as it looks.

Have you considered selling the accessories and returning it to "stock" before you sell it. I know you cant remove all mods you've done but it will help get more of your money back.

I have three other luxury German cars that I enjoy much more and could use the garage space.

OK. This is not about price given you have $200K worth of vehicles in what is clearly a large garage. What, exactly, is the extra $3K going to mean to anything but your ego and yet another classifieds ad thread full of 50 people who respond to classified ads threads for rigs that will never sell at the posted price and never buy anything anyway?

Mo Rocks LOVES your rig!!!

The investments on your 80 are a sunk cost. As in "not recoverable". You can keep it, you can throw more money at it, you can let it rot, none of this is going to matter in any material way.

If you like the truck, keep it. If you don't, for gods sake sell it and stop moaning about it here and don't price it at a point where you know damn well it won't sell but you'll get a ton of attention so we can do this all over again in 2 years.

[tough love = off]

Bear

I sold my built '97 LX shortly after spending a boat load of money on it over the course of 2 years.

I wheeled it some, commuted some (ugh!) and overall really loved the vehicle. My wife's neck surgery sealed the deal and it was sold when I realized she could never ride in it again.

I still lurk here (over three years later) because I still have a hole in me shaped like an 80.

There are all kinds of reasons to sell, and all kinds of reasons not to.

Good luck with the decision!

Tim

Nay, you are right on so many levels. I do appreciate the tough love aspects too. ;) The thing is if I sell it "cheap" I'm sure I'll feel even more burned about it. Take for example my '86 mini truck I finally sold this past summer. I had it since high school, sunk tons of my time and money into BUT when I sold it for $5500 I had no regrets. I want to feel that way about the 80 because I know I'll loath selling it more.

Having this rig in person many times I would rank it in the top handful on MUD. Clean is by far anunderstatement, the anal-retentive attention to detail that Ben's put into his cruiser has you wondering if he lives in the garage! This cruiser looks, rides and even smells new.

Peeper's in austin was selling his last year asking $22k or so and didnt have the equipment that yours has, a clean 40th but not as equipped or maintained. How much have done? Maybe you should post that since everyone does not have the laundry list that i know of....any problems? I think not :)

BTW, angie said you will lose your left testy if you sell

Amen Tarbe.

I appreciate you taking my comments in spirit ;)

It's tough with these love/hate affairs. After I had my fourth child (well, after :princess: had our fourth child :hillbilly:), I tried to find a way to make my XJ work because I had $25K into it and it was just a perfectly built rig and so loaded with good memories that it had been inconceivable to ever sell it.

So I put in a roll cage, bought racing seats, and then realized that I needed to buy a new house and have a rig that actually fit a family of six and posted it for $10K, not much more than the axles were worth new, and it still took several months to sell to a guy in Albuquerque.

After a 100K miles of really awesome trips and memories including our move to Colorado, I was done with it. But :princess: cried that day we drove to New Mexico to drop it off, even though we couldn't even use it anymore.

I got turned onto the 80 as a wheeler that seats 8, and as soon as I closed on my new house I was going to need new wheels because we were down to one vehicle. Two weeks before closing the 80 I now own came on the market 2 miles from my house after months of searching, OCD maintained with a lot of work done by Slee, minimally built, low miles, right price.

Closed on the house, closed on the 80 a day later (seller and I happened to below to the same credit union so we showed up, signed papers, I drove it home) and never looked back.

I couldn't sell my rig and not replace it with something else (and with 4 kids there is no replacement for an 80). I do get out and wheel, but it's more than that - it represents a small bit of life that isn't jockeying a desk, sitting in front of a computer all day, dealing with the pure bull**** of corporate life.

I've spent a mint on that glimpse of a less restricted life, and it's some of the best money I've spent. My other car is a pimped out minivan. Ya gotta do what ya gotta do.

Just make peace with it - it's a truck :steer:

Dude. Its just a truck. If you want sell it, sell it. No need in keeping it and letting it rot. Sell it to someone who will enjoy it. If it was all about regretting selling vehicles and feeling like you got took, then I would have killed myself, 10 times already. I have had so many bad ass vehicles (10 sec. Camaro- to an M35A2 Duece and a Half) that I wish I hadn't sold, but I couldn't keep them all. Do whatever makes you happy. Fxxx the rest of us. Don't take a penny less than what makes you feel comfortable. Just my .02$
