How much sound insulating mat required per door?

Simple question hopefully, for anybody who's installed DynaMat, Noico, or other kinds of butyl sound deadening mat to the doors. How many SQFT did you need for each door?

The front doors in particular seem especially prone to rattle, exploring my options.

I bought and installed this:

which is 36 sq. ft. I went a little overboard on the front doors and probably used 18 sq. ft on them alone. full layer on the outside skin, full layer inner skin and several smaller squares behind the speakers. It adds a bit of weight to the doors, but totally worth it!

The remaining I used for a single layer on the rear doors and tailgate. I did new door lock actuator motors at the same time while I was in there.

I've used this product on my 80. I only put one CLT tile on the metal of each door and it made a big difference on how the doors sounded and felt when shut. There were no rattles and that cheap hollow sound disappeared.

this is very helpful. I was thinking about getting an 18sq.ft. kit to do the front doors when I install my new front speakers today. Seems like that would be more than enough.

If you were limited in the amount of material you had. Would it be more effective to apply the mat to the inner skin (closer to the passenger cabin) or the outerskin (against the exterior)?

Outer skin has more vulnerability to resonance IMO

The 18sqft kit I ordered gave me enough to do the inside and outside skins of both front doors, and I had 1 of the 9 panels provided left over. Could have used it, but I didn't put any mat on the outside skin at the top nearest the door jam, the area above the speaker.

Will probably order another 18 to do the back doors before too long, but my back needs a rest.

Night and day difference. Highly recommend, especially the outside skin. Reduces road noise and helps with (mid)bass response of front speakers. I had done this to my last LC over a long period of time and liked the results. This was the first "mod" I did on my "new" one. Added a little weight to the front doors since I did multiple layers up there, but I close the door and it is solid as a rock.
