Hey!

Could I have possibly written a worse name for this thread??? Why can't I edit my stupidity.

Found this little jewel the other day. It's a 1976 mini truck. has a 22R engine. 2WD was the only option back then so it was converted to 4WD by a Cali company back in the day. Has a jeep Xfer case (not sure tho) and Dana 44. Front discs as well. Body is in very good shape. Some rust here and there and underneath looks good for it's age. Comes with an extra set of tires and 2 extra doors. Looks like a 4" lift but not sure. Interior looked good. Runs fine.

What is this thing worth? Thinking of getting it to learn some welding skills before I experiment on the pumpkin. Seems like a rare type of truck and could be a fun woods rig. Owner is thinking of a price and he definitely wants to sell it. Want to know what a reasonable price would be as I have zero experience with this type of truck

depends of frame condition and milage by looks of it its in amazing shape

Not sure, but I would pick it up if it were cheap. I owned a 1980, and it was a great rig. They are getting VERY hard to find.

Frame is in excellent shape. Some flaky rust on the mounts where the bed meets the frame but it's mainly on the brackets. Frame doesn't need any fixing. Has surface rust but nothing a wire brush and some spray cans wouldn't fix. Overall there is some bondo and a few spots with rust bubbles but nothing bad.

Rabid- Define cheap...... I really have no concept. Is this a $1K truck or a $4K truck? I have no idea what number he's gonna throw at me.

$800-$1000
Running gear isn't Toy so I would think that might be a good bargaining
point.

I was guessing he'd want between $1500-$2000 but like I said I don't know. The lack of rust leads me to believe he'd want on the higher side. His family owns a repair shop so I'm sure he knows what he has.

what he has is a pile of crap as far as I'm concerned. Dana axles with a jeep t-case on a converted 2WD. If you want a 4WD Toyota pick up I'd go out and buy one and not this mongrel. But I like trucks that are easy to fix with well documented repair literature. I'm a wimp like that.

That thing is beautifull. I wholeheartedly agree with rick, the dana and heep stuff has to go, but minitruck stuff is cheap for a couple hundred dollars you could throw another axle and t-case under there easy. Like lane said good bargaining chip, but if you take that thing into the woods and beat on it ill do the same to you. 3500$ is the limit of what you should pay for any minitruck as far as im concerned no matter how rare it is (less you find yourself a trecker) 2k would be a decent deal for that truck, 1k would be a good good deal. no to mention it looks like it comes with its own set of half doors. (if I could, I would buy it)

I would thikn $1500 is a good price. I paid $600 for my 82, ut it had a cracked frame nad a blown motor. The other posters might have a pretty good point about having issues tracking down parts if you are unsure what is in it. I still dig the body style.

Aren't you over 6'? You might want to drive it around a it first. I am just 6' and it was tight.

Hold it! You guys act like John is going to keep it....lets be real here, this is just another peg in the flip machine. :grinpimp:

Sorry John, couldn't resist! I do totally agree with rabid on the spacing for taller people. The only way your moving that seat back is cutting some wall out.

Good point on the height. Hadn't really thought of that. We'll see what he comes back with for a price. Maybe it will get flipped??

didn't take long to get the itch to buy again

I would thikn $1500 is a good price. I

I want some of what your growing in N.VT! :smokin:

$500 MAX Unless it was just driven out from cali the frame needs to be fixed. Those older trucks frames were worse than the 2nd gen ones! Face the facts, its almost %50 Heep, and your going to be chasing random parts to try to make it driveable. I would say $1500 max if its running mint, with a mint frame, with a toyota front end and Tcase.

I think its another case of an owner trying to get top dollar for a 'custom' truck that really isn't worth the $$$ because its clapped out junk. Throw the lowball with a business card and just wait for the phone call, if he realy wants it gone he will call.

I got a couple mini trucks Ill sell ya for $2000 and Ill deliver them! That way you can practice sticking rust together with a welder all ya want! :grinpimp:

If it's cheap and you pass let me know. 1,000 to 1,500. It is a mongrel, but that's why it's interesting.Strictly a novelty, if you want a factory built 4WD minitruck - buy one.

Just FYI - the conversion used the Jeep stuff because it was compatible, dirt cheap, and available. The transfer was independant, and the front 44 bolt pattern and width matched the stock rear axle. Relatively easy conversion leaving the original Toyota 2WD drivetrain intact. At the time, there was no minitruck componenets to choose from. ;)

Make sure the plastic nose cone is in good shape, used to be able to get new ones but I doubt it now. Bed - if there's rot in the seams it's history, and frame.

Run run run away.

The truck in perfect shape would be maybe $1000. Mini trucks can be fun, but this is a 1/2 jeep 1/2 minitruck. IMO It's worth scrap...
