How much can you drop LC200 from dropping tire pressure

Hi everyone;

I am a few inches too high from clearing the garage door threshold with my non-lifted/stock LC200 when the roof tent is on.
I was thinking of dropping the air pressure to get through this issue, drive the LC200 in, unmount the RTT via a winch into ceiling storage, and then be able to drive out and re-inflate the tires.

How many inches do you think it can be dropped by dropping tire psi, and how low is too low?
 
Give it a try… 15 psi is no big deal especially if you’re just driving a few feet. Measure the fender heights before/after and you’ll know.
 
Any idea whats reasonable to expect? I could need at least 4 inches to drop.....if anyone else does this they probably know the situation
 
Even going down to 10-15 psi, you are probably only going to gain an inch or so of extra clearance... I'd say 5 psi even is no problem as long as you're just driving in/out of the garage - that might net you 3 inches extra. Much lower than that however and I'd be worried about losing a bead and doing wheel/tire damage. How much do you need to drop to be able to fit in the garage? If you have to go more than 3 inches I'd say you're SOL without bolting on different/shorter tires.

On stock height sidewalls I seriously doubt you're going to be able to drop 4 inches without a tire coming off the wheel.
 
I am not sure of the exact height without the tent on there, and I just used it one time and took it off at a storage location.
Yeh I would think I may need a couple of inches.....
Home garage would be ideal but just thought I would run it by others if they tried it
Ill just go to plan B and mount/unmount at the other location
 
You could also try heavy items. Weights, sandbags, whatever. I don't think tire pressure alone will get you a few inches, but may have a chance with some weights. It'll be really close.

Before clicking the link I had a hunch on why you were posing this question. I have nothing to add other than I feel your pain. I have to drop a tire for my camper to clear the garage door 2 inches and just one tire is a hassle.

or plan c, just build a new garage for the truck with 12ft ceilings, 10 ft door opening, and a nice 2 post lift to be able to work on the truck :hillbilly:
 
Sounds like you have some additional ceiling height once you are through the door, you might consider putting in a taller garage door if you are going to be in your house for a while. An additional garage is nice too, but swapping out the door for a taller version is a tad cheaper.

Just had them installed about 2 years ago and they maxed out because they had to meet code requirements on the beam thickness! Sucks
 
I would just try lowering a tire until the rim is almost on the ground and take your measurements. If you aren't going far and especially not turning or stopping you would be shocked how little pressure will keep the beads firmly seated.

Yeah, the 7' standard height for a garage door is no longer realistic. When we rebuilt out garage we put in an 8' door and planned for 9' ceiling. Our foundation guy put in an 12" on the forms. So we have 10' ceilings. Pure luxury when I put the LC in the garage.

For the OP, you probably will not gain enough clearance. I bet dropping the air pressure will get you at most 1".

I did put in an order for 10 foot wide by 8 foot high doors but then the building inspector wanted a beam of a certain thickness which brought me down to my current issue

I don’t think I’m the first to be in the situation, wasn’t for the want of trying or $ spent on the doors just got unlucky with building code
 
That is a bummer on the garage. Ours too is 10' wide. Seems like we did a triple 2x12x14' beam across the span. Gets expensive, but not compared to the triple 24' engineered bean we had made for the opening to our sunroom so to accommodate the doors.

I wonder if you could build a hoist system kinda like that on a barn to lift it off. Something that would temporarily hook into above the garage door. If done right it could blend in with the garage.
