How much ATF does the PS system hold?

Hey everyone,
Since I went for broke on the NEW Toyota PS pump, I figured that I would use Amsoil ATF fluid to fill the new pump. Do you think it is a good idea to use the Amsoil, will I see any benefit, or should I just get regular Dextron ATF and be done with it? Also how many quarts will I need to fill the system? The Amsoil stuff is like $8.00 per quart, so I don't want to get more than I need!

Thanks,
Zack

Umm, why not use PS fluid?

It should take a little more than a quart..

Synthetic quarts are like $3.99 at autozone. Valvoline

Because it calls for ATF. I know that some people have used PS fluid, but I want to stick with what Toyota tells me to. But do you think the Amsoil is a good idea?

Sure..

ATF and PS fluid are almost identical..

Not identical enough to be called the same or be the same color. Toyota says ATF. People on here have had pumps leaking from mixing and running the black power steering fluid.

what about using the Amsoil ATF? Is it worth it?

Thanks,
Zack

it of course is not OEM... just light years better. unless you have a warranty that is contingent on using ATF; go with the best.

Does anyone know what the warr is from Toyota on the new pump? BUt I guess it does not matter because the Amsoil ATF is Dextron fluid. I guess it is the best ATF fluid out there?

Black PS fluid???

I would use conventional ATF for a few drains and then switch over after you have flushed out the gunk from the system. I use Mobil1 ATF in my 80s power steering and it has not boiled in places that I have seen others boil their power steering fluid. I would not use Amsoil, but that's just me. If you want synthetic-Mobil1 is 1/2 the preice of the Amsoil if your price is accurate. In my FJ60 I use Chevron Dexron III ATF and I've never had a problem.

edit-I agree with others-Use ATF, not power steering fluid.

The stuff I am used to is about the color of coors...
