I have has 22R's around 300K and still going. The motor in my 93' FZJ 80 has 280,000 and still going. I really believe it's all about maintenance. They'll go forever.

266k and still going...

218k miles on mine. Original HG. My mechanic had one with 345k miles on it. Suddenly it just started using a lot of oil and putting out blue smoke after it sat for a half hour after running it. Ran smooth as could be. He thought it was leaking oil from the valve seals. Didn't want to mess with it and sold it.........for $3500 !!

my 1993 had 168000 when the HG let go. I also found a couple other oil leak issues

im more of a believer that its all about fate or destiny, luck of the draw...whatever, whether or not the HG lets go. there have been some here that im sure are meticulously up to date with maintenance and theirs have blown, or some that are a bit slack and clocking mid to high 200s on original HGs.

im knocking at the door of 190K miles. no oil leaks. got a 1.5 year old P0401 and have suspicions of my HG, but not sure if i should worry very much just yet.

its really a bummer that the 1FZ has an HG issue that really has no rhyme or reason as to why it goes...if/when it does. too bad toyota doesnt realize it the way they did with the 3VZ.

I havent done much to my 96 since I got it with 186,000 miles
I have 308,000 miles now - have driven a total of 122,000 miles

will probably burn to the ground tonite from an electrical short

going from memory - since Ive had it Ive put on a new dist cap and plugs, belts, starter, tires

a new rad (I broke the small nipple off the old one when trying to remoive a froze idler bearing) battery

I have put on two sets of front brake pads, and one (just put them on today) set of rear brake pads

I think 122 thousand miles is pretty good for rear pads - although probably longer than that - I have no idea when PO last changed them
has been thowing PO402 code for most of the time I have owned it

also - would like to fix my leaking PS pump

sure it makes plenty of noises, squeaks groans and rattles - apart from MPG Id drive it anywhere

I was at 61k miles when the head gasket went and took a piston with it. Toyota replaced the whole thing. These trucks are now turning 250k and 300k miles so I think we have yet to see when they really do give up the ghost.

I've got close to 178k miles and original HG. I just did a 2k mile trip to Utah and no problems.

Some people don't appreciate the fact that replacing the HG is a permanent fix...meaning you don't have to replace it again.

I own a 2000 Honda Odyssey minivan w/139k miles. Honda replaced my tranny at 94k miles for free. However, the remanufactured tranny still has original design issue and I'm concerned it may go anytime. The problem is that Honda hasn't resolved the problem for my model year. Some people have had 3 or 4 tranny replacements.

So, be happy that replacing the original HG fixes the problem rather than provide a temporary expensive bandaid.

Mines got 188k and still running strong. Original head gasket, valve cover gasket, ect. I bypassed the EGR in fear of the added heat near the 6th cylinder. Compressions average is 165psi and it burns no oil.

I have high hopes of this engine lasting a lot longer.

100,000

I had to have 80 engune rebuilt at about 100,00 but it wasn't Toyota that toyota did any thing wrong.I let my wife drive it.She put it in 2nd and drove it 45 mins.
at 70 MPH $4200 repair bill.

1997 with 250K miles, nothing but new radiator, fan clutch oil, belts and hoses.

4 of our cruisers have a combined total of 1,000,000 miles no problems. Mike

Well I hit 200,000 miles the other night on the way home from work. Took some driving around, stopping for gas, driving around, stopping for a beer, and some more driving around (an hour or two later), and finally I got it. :). Its actually past 200,000 since I've had 33's on since 170,000, but its still cool to see it roll over. :)

:hmm: I really dont know of any other gas vehicles that are consistantly getting 250,000 miles, let alone one that weighs 5000 pounds from the 90s, i would have to say that as the years go by this model will become more sought after than it is now and will be harder to find. Would be nice to have a second one just to keep nice.

93 cruiser. 154k Head gasket, just blew this week. In the teardown process now.

My mileage it`s about 224k miles/360k kilometers(diesel engine). I tried to search treads including HDJ-80 connection rod bearing problems(engines been "blown" up because of bearing breakages). In my hdj connection rod bearings are rebuilded about 173k miles/278k kilometers, and there was very bad wear marks on bearing surface. I think that this information should be taken pretty serious, because it is common problem in hdj-80 model about year models 90-94 (diesel engines).I know a guy who had saved about 8-10 -80 series engines by chancing connection rod bearings no matter mileage. Bearing part number has been chancing in Toyota part list too!!!!! Here is a picture of damaged connection rod bearings, this is common damage on these HDJ-80 diesel motors.
