How do you know you know you have Superglow?

[I did a test a long time ago and found that my glow system puts out 20-24 volt for a few seconds and then drops to about 12v for the next 20 seconds until the relay shuts down. I assume this is the superglow system working correctly. So is this behavior proof that I have the Superglow system? I am asking because I looked up my VIN (which is a JDM so it never really come through correctly and may not be showing my rig) says I have the 20.5 plugs.

Your glow system tests exactly like my 87 HJ60 superglow system did (when it used to work) and had 14.5V glow plugs. I got them from NAPA in Canada, part # 2188 for around $20 a piece.

When my timer failed I went to a manual dash switch (see my thread on "what to do when superglow fails").

It seems the superglow was designed to glow the plugs for 3-5 seconds at 24V and then you can start the truck when the light goes out. Then the superglow continues to provide 12V for another 20-30 seconds to keep the engine running smoothly. Unfortunately, my rig would NEVER start after only 3-5 seconds of glow, even at outside temps of 15-20C (about 60-70F). Low compression ?!?:frown:.

I remeber when my 2H was fresh .. ( fresh rebuild ) it can be started without any glow after a few turn of the starter .. ( Panamá temp .. around 26ºC )

tested mine. Starts easily at 30*F still blows white but I think it's due to my fuel being turned up too much.
