How can make that with an so expensive truck ?

Yesterday, I was in Montreal car show. I sat down in Lexus LX470, our Canadian LandCruiser. I ask you how an owner of this luxurious and expensive vehicle (100 000$ CDN :eek: ) could play in the mud without feeling guilty?

I am owner of a BJ60 and to play in the mud does not me feel guilty and you? :) ;)

Just for fun… what is your answer about this ? :)

Some people have more money then sense? I would feel good taking a used 100 series out into the woods and mess it up. But I'm cheap and not rich.

Does it make more sense to buy such a capable vehicle and not use it.

Thats like buying a new Corvette (or insert personal favorite sports car) and driving it only in city traffic to your work never getting it above 30 mph (or it's metric equivalent).

If he uses it hard people say he's a rich prig who has more money than sense and if he doesn't use it then he's just a rich poser who doesn't even know the value of what he owns. Either way the rich guy with the nice truck gets dogged on so I think he should do what he wants and not worry about what other people think.

This question really deserves it's own "Screw the rich bastard in the eviromentally disasterous SUV" FAQ. It comes up at least once a week.

Most newer Lexus won't ever see dirt. Some LandCruisers will. I bought a used one, after the rich person put some miles on it:)

Je ne parle pas les francais pour treize ans... J'etudier dan l'ecole...:)

to say that a new landcruiser may get used offroad, yet the LX will not is simply not true. if someone wants a premium full-size import suv, then the 100 is a great choice (perhaps the only). try to buy a $65K vehicle at the average toyota store... it's impossible and they use the same BS tricks they do on the sale of an echo. the lexus stores sell LX's all day long. no games, roughly the same price and a better warranty. it's not about the badge on the grill, it's about the initial sales experience and the extra year of warranty. the vehicles are interchangeable, but the transaction is not. we tried to buy a cruiser, and it just wasn't going to happen, not in my lifetime.

and yes, we do use our LX at the beach and in the snow. it doesn't see trails and it doesn't carry the dogs. it IS too nice and our 80 has plenty of scratches, dirt and wear to make up for the it.

My LX is a work vehicle and I'm a Land Surveyor but I'm like calamaridog. Someone else financed the new car smell. I keep around 250lbs of gear in the cargo area and run it offroad almost every day. I don't have a problem unloading the work gear, rinsing off the mud and loading the wife's gear for the weekend and going as far as I can; in a very comfortable fashion.

My Tacoma is probably going to take the brunt of my surveying duties soon however and the LX will probalby become the wifes DD. I blend in better in the Taco and don't turn as many heads in my plain white work truck.

Would I take an LX off the new car lot and onto a powerline road; no. I've got no problems doing it with a used one though :) I had no problems doing it with my taco off the lot either. Matter of fact I had it airborne the 2nd day I had it. That critter is a blast to run hard.

same price??? what toyota/lexus store are you shopping at? they're about $10K difference here. but i agree that trying to buy a LC at a Toyota dealership is a joke.

OK, OK

I speak about the LX because there is no more LC in Canada since 1989.

But I know that they are the same SUV. I did not want caused controversy about pollution and rich people. I wondered only if the owners of LC 100 or LX 470 really benefitted from the possibilities that their SUV offered.

NMuzj100: you are right... use what we have for the good reasons. :)

Calaramidog: I am glad to read French in this English forum. Thank you! ;)

BTW : how much for a 100 LC in the US

Hope one day I buy a 100 LC ;) during that time I use my strong diesel BJ60. anyway, I prefer the consumption of my LC (21MPG)

a-town

please don't ignore the key word of ROUGHLY in my orignal post

at the end of the MY02 run i negotiated the following

LC typically equipped $55K
LX typically equipped $58.5K

that is roughly the same price, given the better warranty, upgraded stereo and the ability to sidestep the toyota stealer practices.

the sticker prices aren't even $10K apart...

Current prices around Denver, CO;

These are actual buy-it-now prices from www.carsdirect.com, which mean this is what you pay to the penny.

'05 LC with every possible option: $58,796
'05 LX with every possible option: $72,744
The LX includes 'Night View' a $2200 option, which isn't even listed to add to the LC, but even with that taken off the price it's still $$$$$.

Ace, based on your sig your wife has a lot of vehicles :) Does she let you wash them and put gas in them?

gas fills=constantly
washes=never, i don't believe in it

she's got keys to all of them, 80 included, thankfully she doesn't know how (or care) to operate the skidsteer. the honda scares her a little, but she still wails around in it when the weather suits.

Be proud, man, say Quebecois in your sig then, not "french" ! who wants to be confused, eh?

I thought that most americans in Canada were the Dems fleeing the big right wing conspiracy. And there are clearly not enough of these...! Heck, they should all move...! :D
