Does anyone know of any mods that I could do that would improve the fuel efficiency of my cruiser while still satisfying the emissions requirements in California? I know, I know...you don't buy a cruiser for fuel efficiency...

flux capacitors on the tritium thrusters ;-)

keep your itres properly inflated, remove any unecessary weight, take it easy on the throttle and don't run the a/c. get a toyota prius?

almost three tons of barn door aerodynamics just isn't going to yield much in the way of fuel efficiency. you don't buy a cruiser for fuel efficiency...

I remember reading a review of the 100 a while back where they claimed running the AC had no effect on fuel economy.

your funny :) my 100 is the biggest, fastest, most powerfull cruiser I have and gets the best milage of any of the others....... :flipoff2:

I think I get pretty good gas mileage with mine, I get about 15. That is mostly city. I did not buy it to have gas mileage, I bought it because I can have a nice leather infused ride to work and then take it out and get it over mountains on the weekend. There are some things you could do, but they cost so much you would spend more on the items than you would ever recover on the gas mileage. I mean you could spend $600 on a nice exhaust and get .5 mpg more, but at that rate you would have to drive about 1,000,000 miles to make up the cost. As someone above said the UZJ100 is the biggest, most powerful Cruiser, yet it gets the best gas mileage.

WOW, that is good mileage for city driving. Do you burn 91+ octane? I've heard that when they install the new VVT 4.7 V8 for 2005 that with this upgrade and the new 5 speed transmission the mileage might go to 17 mpg city on 87 octane.

Buddy of mine gets 15mpg in a mix of city/freeway driving (CA, '01 UZJ100, stock).

I guess a supercharger might buy you 1mpg extra if you're lucky. Best way to improve fuel economy short of swapping in a 1HD-FTE (yeah, the TD or any diesel gets around CA emissions requirements, as you don't have to smog it at all! Pretty ironic, as domestic (commercial) diesels are the biggest polluters in LA) is to have a very light foot, like 0-60mph in 15-20 sec acceleration, coast into red lights rather than approaching them at full speed and slamming on the brakes like many drivers, only use the AC when moving at a constant velocity. This makes a noticeable difference on fuel economy, not to mention drivetrain/brake wear. You can have two identical vehicles, one driven w/ pedal-to-the-metal acceleration at nearly every light and the other driven w/ a light foot, and I'd bet the one w/ the light foot will last quite a bit longer.

I get almost 14 mpg in local driving around the mountain and Black Mountain. On the interstate, if I run it at the speed limit and lightly loaded, I get about 18 mpg plus a fraction. Of course, if I'm on the interstate I'm rarely light or slow *grin*

If you can find an imported diesel then supposedly they get pretty decent fuel economy. I do not know if this figure is correct, but the early 80s bj60 supposedly got around 26mpg using the 3.4L 4 cylinder (think this was the 3B). I don't know it for certain though.
