I usually drive until its at the 1/8 tank mark on my gauge, which means when I fill up it takes about 14.5 US gallons. This typically gets me about 450km per tank.

I ran it longer once and it filled up with 16.1 US gal.

Just how big is the tank? My gauge seems to lose some of its sensitivity at the bottom end of the scale and drops very slowly from 1/8 tank so I don't know if I can trust it. Anyone know? 1982, NZ spec BJ42...

yeah, I'm guessing 100 litre, I'll still have fuel in my tank and can put another 88 litres in.

Mines 84 litres which is what I think yours will be too.

Here's a couple of photos from the back of my Owners Manual:

BTW --- The "station wagon" referred to is FJ55 (pig)

Yep 84 liters is about what i think i have. 117$ my bigest fill up, and i was not totally empty. I sure do more then 500k with it. Never really checked.

Not really sure, but I usually end up putting in around 17-18gal when I fill up. That seems to be just below the 1/8 area on the gauge.

84L for a 1982 bj42 from Canada

... Ok guys, I'm going to push it to 600kms on this tank. I hope you're right! :D

Trust us. ......... Would we let you down?............................

He he he

Just bring a fuel can with you and some sort of compressed air and run it dry (perferably at or very near a gas station). When you run out of fuel, put about 20L in your tank and than hold the air nozzle into the filler tube, hold a piece of cloth around the nozzle to sort of seal the tank. Crack your fuel line at the fuel filter and charge the fuel system with the compressed air (this will actually charge the system with fuel by adding a bit of pressure to the fuel lines and filling them with fuel).

Fill up the tank and see how much it takes (minus the 20L from the fuel can).

Either than or just don't worry about how many KM's you can get and fill up when your comfortable.

My BJ60 has taken as much as 85L (and I was told it was an 80L tank).

The 60's have a 90 litre tank. I am quite religious about recording my distance on a tank of fuel, 600km is comfy, 700km is taking it pretty low, 86 litres last time. Winter mileage is less.

Don't forget that if you run it dry you have to charge the system downstream of the injection pump by using the manual priming pump mounted to the injection pump. I think it helps to loosen the nuts holding the injector lines to the the injectors, but I don't know if it is actually necessary except to tell when you have got fuel that far.

I have only run mine dry once or twice and never found it necessary to charge the system with compressed air, but maybe it meant I was running around with air in my fuel filter?

Well, I took it as low as I dared, which was about one needle's width above the line to E... It took 18.75g to fill up, or 626km... do we supposed there could be 3 gallons hiding in there still???

Sure there's more :D Try for 700km next!
