In the middle of my transfer case rebuild and I noticed that the inside of the idler gear has some wear. These things are mega-expensive and I would like to throw it back in there if you guys think it'll go.
How Badly Worn Is this Idler Gear?

I'd put in a new one the surface doesn't look to good.
Looks like toast to me. What did the shaft look like?
If this is for a 62 series I may have that gear.

The idler shaft had a bunch of wear, and the bearing that was on the same end as the gear wear was toast as well. Rats.
This did come out of a 62 Dallen, and I'd be super appreciative if you have a replacement. I'll shoot you a PM.

You might check with a local machinist to see about welding and re-boring the idler, or possibly a sleeving it. If it works for cylinders, it should work for the idler gear too.
