Hello,

I looked at a GX470 for sale today. It spent most of its life in Massachusetts, but is now in California. It is mostly clean and mostly what I want, but it has some rust underneath. I'm a little weirded out by it, but am unsure how bad it actually is. Could you guys let me know what you think of it? Mostly I'm concerned about the KDSS hydraulic lines.

I appreciate your opinions. Thank you.

Walk away. If you are in Cali your in the land of clean trucks just wait until you find one.

Second that. Walk away!
There's plenty of options out there if you're willing to look. I opened my search to TX and the west coast and found a clean truck without looking too long.

I don't think it looks bad at all, the radiator leaking would concern me more than that.

It looks a little better than the one I picked up out of Monterey Bay. The only reason I bought it was because it had extensive service records and it was at least $6000 cheaper than anything I found in Los Angeles.

For my region, that would be considered very little rust.

So if I were in a region where truly rust-free vehicles were available, I would be using it as a bargaining chip to lower the price. That certainly doesn't look like enough rust to cause any major issues (as long as it is treated soon). In my area, the amount of rust shown in your pictures would not get much off the asking price, because it would actually be considered pretty good condition compared to the others available.

I walked away from 2 GXs here before buying mine, because they were SCARY rusty. Yet on the body they were in perfect condition. Of course they were asking top dollar.

This is a GX from Wisconsin.... my brother works at Lexus and took some pics of it. I think the insurance company totalled it because the frame snapped in half when they put it on a lift for inspection. This gives you an idea what REAL rust looks like. The one you posted is 90% rust free. The guys telling you to walk away have a point, you’re in one of the best states for rust free vehicles, but by no means is that truck a rust bucket.

I would suggest looking in a better part of the country and driving it home. I bought a car in CO and had them take it to an independent shop for a pre-purchase inspection. The foreman called me with all the information that they found. Well worth the $125 plus $200 in gas.

Thanks.

I passed on this. It sold the same day. Around here, KDSS equipped GX470s go quick. I'm sure the buyer didn't even care or notice the rust.

Yeah I bet most people in Cali forget about the rust completely when looking at a truck. I agree on the East coast that was a perfectly normal truck. But rust is such a nuisance, there is a reason why the price premium on a zero rust truck exists.

Looks nearly rust free IMO, being from the east coast I'd jump on a truck with such little rust. The photos which Kabanstva posted on the other hand... :nailbiting:
