How bad is it w/o rear A/C (1 Viewer)

As I contemplate (agonize?) over the 80 vs 100 series decision one thing I'm considering is the availability of rear A/C.

In an 80, is a properly charged and operating A/C sufficient to cool the entire cabin? (Possibly add an electric fan for slow/idling and more tint)? ... even in AZ?

Is the "Rear A/C" feature available on some 100's really about independent control of the A/C for the rear?

I am thinking about my two little boys traveling in the back or the way back....we're only going to have a good time if they are comfortable too....

^^ x eleventy-billion... If you have a dog in the back, they'll appreciate it, too. '98 Land Cruiser did not have rear AC, '99+ does. I think all years of LX 470 have it. The entire cabin cools down much faster with the 100 compoared to the 80. The only downside is that the rear "controls" (other than an on/off switch), are on the roof behind the driver's-side middle seat. Small children may have a hard time reaching them. Having said that, I set it 4 years ago at max cool and high fan and haven't looked back...

The entire rear quarter full with an evaporator, blower, and other junk
Duct goes up the side
Not sure how one would adapt the overhead blower

The a/c in my 100 is way better than the a/c in my 80 was.

This input is swaying me pretty heavily away from an 80 and towards a 100 - no offense to the 80'ers - I still like the whole solid axle thing, and the 80 is a lot more familiar to me than a 100.

I think a 100 is going to be a much better 8 seater than an 80 in AZ - (not that I will have 8 people in there all the time). I can definitely see that someone that perhaps has draws and/or equipment in that 3rd row space might be less concerned about the AC for the back, but for me, having actual (little) people (and pets) back there is a very real use case.

My wife loves our 97 LX and would have one if it had rear a/c. A 100 is in our future as the kids get bigger and carpooling the neice/nephew continue, but delayed this year as fundage isn't there. Stuck with our little, yet wonderful, Mazda5. No rear a/c in that but half the cabin size.

Can't wait for a 100!!
