I searched for this and I couldn't find anything. I just parked my 1997 Lexus LX450 and I noticed a very odd smell. I popped the hood and I heard a bubbling sound. There was a oozing brown liquid coming out of my hood lift supports. The supports have been weak for a while now and I have had to put something underneath the hood to hold it up. Has anyone ever experienced this before? It just seems really bizarre, I don't know if it was a mixture of the heat from the engine and whatever liquid is in the support that produced that smell or what. Any input would be appreciated.

This morning I replaced mine with these:

Perfect fit, and one of them can hold up hood by itself - very strong (but obviously replace both). 10min job.

Okay great idea, I'll order them now! Thanks guys!

Jason at Cruiser Yard sells them as well. Check his website and vendor page for more information.
