I've read a couple of threads about the hood release, but not sure if they apply. My hood release (under the dash) pulls and acts on the hood latch just fine, but the hood does not pop up the inch or so required to get your fingers under the secondary release lever. It's a 2 person job - one pulling on the release and the other lifting the hood.

Where exactly is the spring that "pops" the hood? That's what I can't figure out. Is it part of the latch mechanism, part of the folding support arms (there's a spiral spring in the knee of the support arms), or somewhere else?

It's the latch under the front of the hood. I just fixed mine last week. You have to adjust it, up,down, left, right, to get it to work properly.

Also douse all the linkages with WD40, sometimes it can be a seized cable, hinge or linkage.

Nooooo. WD40 does work, but a lot of stuff has come along in the past sixty years since it debuted. Ever notice how mud/gunk tends to accumulate in areas where you have an oil leak? Same principle. WD40 loves to attract dust and also doesn't last as long as a lubricant as modern chemicals.

Use white lithium grease.

Ahh that layer of dirt is EXTRA protection! Ever notice how that grime will act to stop oil leaks?

Plus it's a lot easier to spray into hidden crevices than lithium grease.:p

You might adjust the rubber hood stoppers on either side up a little if all the gunk and sundry adjusting doesn't work. There's also magic or prayer depending on your inclinations.

:D

I've never had any trouble getting it into crevices, but then again I have a drawer in my toolbox that I throw all of those little, red straws in, so I always have one on hand for directing the spray. ;)

i had the same problem a few months back. i mucked around with the latch to no avail and was about to order a new one when someone suggested adjusting the hood bumpers. five second fix :)
