I figured I'd post these pictures. I got a hold of scrap sheet of heavy duty 2" pultruded FRP (fiberglass reinforced plastic) grating with coarse top coat for the walking surface. I figured I could make sand ladders out of it and it'll double as a bridges too... The final lengths are 13" x 4' and they weigh 24# per set. Perhaps a little heavy, but they are very stiff and durable, and they won't; rust, dry-rot due to UV, crack under cold temps, or deflect due to normal hot temps....oh ya and it was free!!!

The last photo of my wheel on the bridge spanning +3', and there is almost no deflection of the grating. The large sheet made 4 sets...

oh ya and the way the grating is formed I can actaully stack them inside of each other...or atleast down to the cross bars...so teh total depth of both is about 3.25"

Very nice!

Very cool, what were they for originally?

I didn't show the top surface but it is really really rough! We're talking #030 grit sand paper! Which will be nice when its wet or muddy. Combine the texture with an aired-down tire and it should work great!!!!

would probably also work to get out of a snow stuck, you or someone else...

good point. Its snowing pretty good here in Western CO rite now, and typically I can get stuck driving up my own driveway in 2WD if I haven't shoveled.....I'll give it a go and see how they do.

I have something similar. I found this website (GRATEMATES) and then bought a full sheet of it from a local supplier. I cut it up and made 5 sets. They work great in sand. I haven't tried using them as bridges, but mine are the same dimensions as the grate mates website.
