I figured I'd post these pictures. I got a hold of scrap sheet of heavy duty 2" pultruded FRP (fiberglass reinforced plastic) grating with coarse top coat for the walking surface. I figured I could make sand ladders out of it and it'll double as a bridges too... The final lengths are 13" x 4' and they weigh 24# per set. Perhaps a little heavy, but they are very stiff and durable, and they won't; rust, dry-rot due to UV, crack under cold temps, or deflect due to normal hot temps....oh ya and it was free!!!
The last photo of my wheel on the bridge spanning +3', and there is almost no deflection of the grating. The large sheet made 4 sets...
oh ya and the way the grating is formed I can actaully stack them inside of each other...or atleast down to the cross bars...so teh total depth of both is about 3.25"
