Yikes! Just got my 80 with 169000 on it a couple of weeks ago and still learning my way around it. Check my PHH and it looks like the original one! Ordered my new hose yesterday! Thanks for a great board & great info!

I just got a quote of $220 including the coolant to do my PHH and the top HH on my 96 (I am supplying parts).

Sounds good to me! :)

Hmm. Did not know this! I ordered one.. It said three day shipping..

Anyone in the Daytona Beach area care to lend a hand? :D

Hey man, I am in Daytona two days a week. But live up in Saint Augustine. We have a few wagons (60,62,80)...Right now we are getting ready for GSMTR so were are tubing and caging the 60. You are more than welcome to use whatever tools you need.

Awesome! I have a little marine mechanics tool set but I'm wondering if ill need more specialized tools. But thanks! Ill probably take you up on that. When I take the hose off, is coolant going to spill everywhere? All of it? If so, what do I replace it with?

What is GSMTR? Sounds a bit out of my league but I have been wanting to at least play around in some dirt without risking damaging the vehicle as It is my daily driver too. Is that feasible? I know the saying "pay to play" but I'm trying to get around that :D

Here's mine what it look like.. at least i did good job removed it and still in one piece :D

Thats how mine looked, before I pulled it off. It came out in like four pieces since parts of it were stuck to the nipple on the block. It happened almost exactly a week after I bought my LC. It had about 170k miles. on it. Didn't know about the killer hose and just used some fuel line like hose I had lying around. I think I going to replace it pretty soon just to be safe.

We have a bunch of rides trips during the summer that your truck would be fine with. If I can spot my girl and her 80 into some gnarly stuff im sure you wont have a problem.

GSMTR is Great Smokey Mountain Trail Ride in Tellico,TN...Its gonna be around a 1400 mile round trip in my buggied 60. (Can't freakin wait) or can I? I have so much work to finish up before we go.

Check out http://nfcruiserheads.org/forum/index.php Its got a bunch of local cruiserheads. You can drop me a line if ya want....Pm me and Ill shoot ya over my Phone #

hasta,

For $200 I might have let a mechanic do that job. I do most of my own work because it's gratifying. Replacing the PHH was not gratifying--more like a rite of passage (among many) for newbie 80 series owners.

To do the job right you've got to drain your coolant system (radiator and engine block), after which you should have little if any spillage. Replace with whatever coolant you like.

 HOLY CRAP that's cheap! We charge $340 (it's a four hour job) plus coolant. I wonder if they don't know what they are getting into?

I convinced them that it was easy...and I was paying for a lot of other stuff that was high margin (I ran out of time to get it done) so they comped a bit i bet.

She was about to blow!!! I think.....

Replaced mine over the weekend! Thanks for all the great posts on the subject of changing out the PHH. I felt like the job went pretty smooth for my first time. Got my "new to me" 80 a few weeks ago. 97 with 170,000 and my former neighbor, Alex said check it right away. I did and here's what I found.

Is your coolant leaking from the upper part of the hard line?

That picture above is so misleading....
... The camera angle make it look like anyone should just be able to reach right in there and switch it out. Not true mister camera man...not true. :D

Here's a better pic.. I think... It really wasn't that bad... All i did was drop the tranny dipstick guide and i got in there pretty easy. I'm not saying it's a cake job, but if you take your time it's not bad... Thanks for the welcome!!!

Mine just started leaking last night at 130K miles, I have my work cut out for me tonight. Good thing I ordered the silicone PHH kit two years ago and have it ready to install!

Hardly....came from the Victoria's Secret web site. (needed pink panties since I have an LX) I can't afford that kind of woman, and even if I could it would just be a short-term lease anyway until she found the next better offer.

.

I was at the dealer a few years ago and happened to ask what they would charge. He said 1 hour labor - $50 or so at the time. I handed him the keys.
