I was leaning that way, but without the river crossing the 160 loop sounds better? They are the same meet spot, so the decision doesn't "need" to be made 'till we pull out in the morning.:D

Somewhere in the FJ/Superior area for Sunday?

Give a call when you know the status of the K5? Are you going to have phone/net service this visit?

Sounds all good to me. My doubts about FJ were because of the State Land permit situation (i.e. mine being somewhere in the ether...), but if that doesn't apply it's fine by me. Sunday is better for FJ.

I'll know about my truck by tonite - I'll give you a call.

Yes, we will have phone and Internet this time around... ;)

Off to the airport - hope there are no delays

How many more was I supposed to use?:D

What may have created some confusion is that I'm NOT talking about a full-body Toyota PU. My ride's a full-size Blazer, and there are many places where it doesn't go because it doesn't fit. And I'm not gonna make it fit, either ;). I wasn't questioning anyone's character, nor was I insinuating that someone wouldn't be welcome. As stated above, I'm just a guest here with CSC.

First off, thanks to John for the kind words.

Second, I think everyone has misread my comments and perhaps that was my fault. I didn't include smilies b/c I wasn't trying to be funny. I assure you, my nose is not out of joint over any of this.....I was merely asking questions about my welcomeness (there are many "less extreme" groups that have a very negative opinion of buggies in general).

What you will find with my personality and posts is that I just tell you my opinion or experience....I try not to mince my words. Sometimes I may be overly wordy and that's b/c I'm trying avoid being misunderstood. I often fail.

Everyone just needs to step back and relax.

I respectfully disagree that a fullsize Chevy is all that different from a Toyota. Yes, it's wider....just means you need to be more careful. There are some places it will just physically not fit....but I've yet to see those places on L. Woodpecker or U. Ajax (both have bypasses around EVERY obstacle). I've seen enough fullsizes on these trails to know that it can be done without destroying the vehicle. Regardless, you don't seem at all comfortable with running any of these trails, and I'm not going to try to pressure you into it. Where's the fun (for you or me) in you having a miserable time? My invite wasn't really specifically for any one person in particular anyway.

If anyone else wants to run these type of trails in the next few weeks, please post up. I'd be interested in meeting you.

Sean

Sycamore isn't much if any further than Superior area? Making it back to Tucson by 5pm would be a challenge.:D

I'll stay in the loop. If you guys end up doing something where I can bail and hit asphalt ~1-2pm I would be able to go. Alvin said something about doing something closer to town this weekend as well, but he is an a#@hole.

Florence Junction Sunday:D ! Something for everyone:bounce2: ! I'm bringing my dog - I hope Spike leaves his grill home:lol: !

Now I really have to get my xmas shopping done tomorrow:rolleyes: !

If your dog keeps honking the horn, Spike may eat it anyway!:D

Ross and Sean

I was talking to Ross about something on sunday. Depending on your timing Sean, maybe Ross and I could meet you in FJ. I would like to run woodpecker or ajax. Not sure which one my rig is capable of.
Ross has a party to he has to be at sunday evening and I can't go on saturday.

Sean, you're more than welcome to bring your buggy on the C-gap run I have slated for the 31st.

Saturday Run;

The plan is to go in Upper Sycamore, out the back on 160 around Lone Mountain, then return to Beeline at Lower Sycamore. None of us have been the whole way, but Rob ran the first third of it in his almost stock '87 4Runner.

Meeting at the Baja gas station across from the casino on Beeline HWY, a couple of miles after Shea Blvd turn off, at about 9:00 in the morning. For any far east valley guys, alternate meeting places would be, the Bush HWY/Saguaro Lake turn off, or Sugarloaf/Sycamore turnoff. Everyone welcome, postup and/or showup!:D

Sunday actually works better for me too. I still need to change out my upper coils on the rear coilovers and give everything a once over.

As for trails....I see you have an FJ80, locked f/r on 315's. That should be fine for either trail....the only thing I would HIGHLY recommend is some sort of rock slider if you wanted to do Upper Ajax. Lower Woodpecker is pretty much just a 100 yard long playground (at least the most technical portion is only that long). There are numerous obstacles along the canyon walls on which to play along the whole "Middle and Lower" area.

If you don't have rock sliders, we could run an easier trail.....Lower Ajax is pretty easy and has much less chance of hitting the rockers. We could also probably get away with doing Upper Woodpecker if you'd rather do that instead, we'd just need to be careful with tire placement to make sure you don't have any new dents. ;)

Not sure who Ross is....but how's he set up? It all depends on the type of vehicle he's running and how it's set up.

Let me know.

Oh, and I'd like to make the Charleau Gap run, but in the buggy, I'd have to turn around and come back out the way I came in....kinda limits me to loop type trails. I ran C-Gap years ago in my old Toy, and it was an all day ride. I wouldn't mind coming back the way I went in, if it wasn't such a long trip. Thanks very much for the invite though. :)

Sean

Sean, when were you last out to FJ? A bunch of lower Ajax washed into Woodpecker this fall, making Ajax harder and Middle Woodpecker way easy.

Been a very long time. Thanks for the heads up. How difficult is Lower Ajax now? What about Upper Ajax?

Thanks for any help you can give.

Sean

I didn't run the whole thing, but a couple of sections that were easy now have big rock gardens (big from a :princess: LX view). I would say that 2+ feet of sand washed out in places! It's been a couple of months, so knowing how things work out there it's probably all stacked into a new road by now?:D

Well, I'm bringing the bank's the FJ Cruiser Sunday to FJ, I'm armored pretty well, but have yet to do the "A-Trac Hack". I can run obstacles or bypass as appropriate/comfortable - I tend to let Tools run me in to obstacles:grinpimp: . But whatever, we're out to play - meet @ the Basha's in Gold Canyon about 08:30?

Alvin - hope to see ya & I'm pushing Karen and Crash Pilot Bob to Make C-Gap on the 31st:cheers: .

Some of us are also going to be out that way on Sunday, but probably slightly east of FJ, burned out on FJ and will be there for AZ Rocks. Will meet at Basha's at 9:00 and run something like, Alamo Canyon, Telegraph Canyon or Hackberry, to be decided on the trail tomorrow.

I'm guessing you're Ross?? What's the A-Trac Hack? I have no idea on the capability of the FJCs, so I don't really know how much trouble you'll have on a trail like Upper Ajax.

Do you mind playing it by ear? I certainly don't want to get you into anything you're uncomfortable doing.

Where is Basha's at in Gold Canyon (I'm used to meeting at the flagpole at Cottonwood Canyon)? I think it's the first of the 3 stop lights in Gold Canyon if you're headed east bound on US60, right?

Is the meeting time 9 or 8:30? Is channel 4 okay?

I'm going to have to take my tow rig down Cottonwood Canyon to the first cattle guard and drop there.....my STL permit is expired and I haven't had time to go down and get a new one.

Nope, I'm Ross :).

I talked to Alvin last night. My only thing is from the FJ area I have to leave early and need to be able to hit asphalt by 1-2pm or my wife would kill me. He also mentioned that he might want to run C-Gap so he doesn't lead anyone astray.

I have a unlocked 80 on 33's, no sliders or other protection.

I'm Carl. Youve seen me at Sonic with the yellow FJC. It does fairly well, but I gauge what I get it into. Biggest limitation is probably the IFS. I'm still getting to learn its capabilites as well as honing my skills.:bounce:

"A-TRAC hack" enables the ABS driven traction control to operate in stnc with the rear locker. In stock config for the 1st 8 mos of production these was not the set up.:censor: It is rumored to be on all FJC's built since Nov '06.

You're correct on the Basha's location, its convenient and we usually pick up lunch there before we head out. I try to shpw up by 08:30 and pull out by 09:00 - I'm in a time zone about 10 minute behind most tho...:whoops:

Cannel 4 seems to be the3 norm;)
