There is a hole in the engine. Its left frontish right under where the original air filter would have been.

Dont know how it got there, but it has been welded over before. Metal plate with weld. Its just dripping and needs to be fixed.

Have any of you dealt with this type of fix?

The engine literally purrs.

I would not try welding again b/c welding to cast iron can be tricky. I have had great results with JB weld in just the same situations. Wire brush the area area and clean with lacquer thinner to make sure it is absolutely spot less then mix up some JB weld , I have also taken copper stranded wire and imbedded it in the JB weld criss-cross to form a reinforcing mesh. This formed a great and permanent repair for me. Good luck.

I believe what you need sir is a new block ;) From what I have been told the proper way to weld a block is to heat it to glowing, weld it, then let it slowly cool off over the course of a few weeks.

I would try the JB weld first. I used it to repair an aluminum crank case on a dirt bike that my neighbor's kid had knocked a chunk out of. I was goint to TIG weld it but I couldn't get the torch into the tight space. It has lasted a couple of seasons.

If the JB doesn't cut it, you can always grind it out and weld it with nickle rod or one of the special cast iron rods from Chronatron.

that's my old 40! the block was cracked when i put the engine in the truck its only a external water jacket put some more jb weld on it the engine is out of a69 fj55 that i bought from aguy up in kirkland i still have the original engine if you want it good luck! i put alot miles on that truck and have a lot of good memoreys by the way the build date is 11/72 kevin

Small world. Your old rig runs great. I think it's gone through 2-3 hands since you owned it. I bought it in a non/running state and got er going again.. It sat for 2 years with no love.

I have many questions for you regarding the options on it. PM'd you my number

If the hole only breeches the water jacket, could the hole be drilled & tapped for a pipe plug like on SBCs?

i will call you saturday afternoon and tell you every thing i can remember. it always ran real strong i've had the engine running 4,500 rpm down the hiway with no problems. it was more powerfull than the 2f in my 79 but i havn't owned it for about 5years. by the way how do you like the hack job on the front crossmember! no i didn't do it the guy i bought it from did that kevin

yea, quite a hack job. front cross member was completely drilled through. I wont have any time this weekend to drill down into the crack/hole issue, but will get to it next week. Just want to do it right.

Yea, its a fun summer rig so far. Look forward to your call.
