Just called Desert Toyota in Tucson and talked to Justin in parts. Asked for a water pump for an 84 FJ60 with the 2F motor.

$575.60, and he would have to order it in. Apparently the new TEQ certified water pump are made of depleted uranium. And then covered in platinum. And made to pump unicorn tears through your cooling system.

By comparison the cost of a crappy pump from O'Rielleys is $70.00 plus core.

Needless to say, I'm calling Cruiser Dan. I'm weeping a bit of water from the pump, suspect when the smog pump seized it may have caused some damage. Sucks, as I have less than 5k on the water pump (also ordered from Cruiser Dan) since I put it in.

Just wanted to pass along that price. Since I'll have to have it shipped to me anyway, Cruiser Dan pretty much has the best price and in-stock of any Toyota dealer (Sorry Camelback) that I've checked with.

Double check when you bought it. If it is under 12 months, the part can be warrantied for no charge and any Toyota dealer.

Good to know

I'll see if I kept any of the paperwork on it. Think I bought it in March/April of last year.

you can walk into your local Toyota dealer there in Tucson with the old water pump and the reciept. They should replace it for you for no charge. might save you some time due to shipping? Just a thought...

Maybe youll end up with that zircon-encrusted pump?! ;)

Was able to get my paperwork on it, was purchased in April 2013. Talked to Michael at Desert and they ordered it in, and should be there Friday in time for the weekend deinstall/install cycle. Still can't believe the price I was quoted - I had Michael recheck based on the part number and it was 109.00. *That* is much more in line with what I expected, and if I had been quoted that to begin with I may not have even checked or found out about that one year warranty.

Goes to show, eh?

Normally, same here.

I just bought one from Khristal at Camelback in Phoenix for $76.

This is with the CSC discount.

I never, ever go to Desert Toyota.

But since they could get the water pump in, and they're about 1 1/2 from my house, I went ahead and did it this time. Just finished replacing it and putting everything back together. So far, no leak - so here's hoping I correctly diagnosed it to seal/bearings on the WP and not some other random issue with hoses, etc.

In any case, new WP. Woot! And working smog pump, and power steering that doesn't leak. Next it's springs, the H55, and a alternator that has more than double digit amp output, and I'll be happy......for a while.

Sounds like we did the same thing today. I just swapped out mine too, and replaced a bunch of the hoses.

It was a bigger project (I should say... it took a lot longer) than I expected.

Now what do I do with the old water pump.... Any value to it?

Worth of an old pump

Well, I don't think they can be rebuilt economically - the old Vatozone one that I had replaced with the first TEQ aisin pump is still in my box of trail spares. I had pulled it thinking the bearings were going out - was more likely the smog pump bearings starting to go....

I would see if you know anybody who wants a chunk of AL for their forge if its got a bad bearing squeal, or if the impeller is rotten or if the seal leaks on the shaft.

$.02

If the impeller is OK, then you could just press off the old bearing/seal, and then replace. I have heard that it is hard to source the correct size. John
