Hi guys.
I have a HJ75 ute, on the weekend i was snatching out a mate and something gave way. I tjrn had no 4wd. It felt pritty serious but i couldnt find anything obvious from the outside. On sunday i was driving around to find any abnormal noises. When ever I took off i would get a sound that was like having a stick stuck in my spokes. Also sounded like gears wernt meshing properly. I was in 2wd hubs unlocked when that happend. I moved the Transfer gear stick side to side in 2wd and the noise stopped.
Thats when i first thought Transfer case. Any I lifted it yesterday and locked the hubs chucked it in 4WD. The front wheels did not spin but the drive shaft to the front diff did.
Help would be much appreciated
cheers

Blown hub or hubs not completely engaging? electric or manual? Sometimes the springs break/come apart. take the hub outer off when it's in the lock position and see if it is indeed locked, but judging by your driveshaft spinning and the wheels not i would say somethin is fooked.
Do you get any noises when hubs are unlocked and driving in 4wd hi/lo?
Sometimes the 4wd lever/linkage gets sloppy as well if maladjusted or loose it will pop out/not completely engage.

Well, drop the fluid on the front differential, if pieces start coming out, then you may have grenaded the diff. And leave the hubs locked and spin one wheel and the other should turn if the diff is ok.

Second, you can try and lock the hubs and drive around in 2H and do some turns and see if the birf grenaded. You should hear some grinding or have lurching if the CVs are dead.

Good place to start;)

You either snapped a birf(cv) or stripped the drive plate.
The drive plate transfers power from your birf to the wheel ends.
