Hj61 rumbling and crunching tranny

Hi! Think i need to rebuild my hj61 noisy t-case. I like to have some quess before tear down, what bearings might be shot? Driving 2wd no noise at all, but there is rumbling/crunching sound with gears 3,4,5 when 4wd hi and coasting light footed/changing gear. 4wd hi also crunchy with hubs free. 4wd low no noise. 4wd hi no noise if front or rear prop shaft is removed. Pinions are good, both shafts are good. Can it be output bearings? How they can be silent when driving front and rear separatly?

have you checked the oil level?
drained the oil and check for debris?

That happened to me when I was 18 and I lost a front wheel while driving. Lucky I was only in a parking lot and not the highway.
