Hello

I had to have my truck towed last week because it would not start. Batteries seem fine, glow plugs preheat, but nothing happens when I turn the key forward to start (in park or neutral). It happened the day before and I put it into neutral from park and it started. But this day nothing in any gear.

The shop I towed it to played with it for an hour. Took the starter fuse out (which was fine) put it back in and it started up. All seemed fine until it did it again yesterday, once again put it in neutral and it started. Rest of the day it was fine.

Could this be the switch failing that lets the truck know it's in neutral or park? Is this a hard fix?

Thanks

The switch is a possibility, but I think the starter is much more likely. did you try to smack the starter when this is happening?
My guess is that the starter contacts are eroded, and need to be chnaged. you can do this yourself with this http://cgi.ebay.com/Toyota-Lift-Tru...ryZ56998QQssPageNameZWD1VQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
or go to a shop.
also make sure your cables to and from the starter and the grounds are good.

There is no sound at all. No click, groan or grind.

Yes we did hit the starter. It seems like a random problem. When it does start it starts quickly with no problems at all.

I have a bj60 and i am having the same problem but mine is a manual. If i let it go through the glow plug warm up it starts right up but if I straight away start it (after being used allday) it won't start. it is random also. Any thoughts ? Let me know what you find and i will do the same

try checking the battery connections... make sure everything is tight. Try the steel wool on the terminals for a better connection.

Had the same problem with my hj61. It was the contacts in the starter . They welded themselves together. Bought news at starter repair shop for 10 bucks.
