79 LWB. H engine. How much can I safely tow? 3500 lbs? This thing is really slow though seems to have strong low gears and requires quick shifting to 3rd. How is the torque?

I reckon you could tow across your backyard with a H motor. But not on a gazetted road unless you really needed to. Time to wake'r up with a hairdryer! H motors are very understressed engines, great for turboing at low boost.

Very eloquently stated.
I had to look up the definition of gazetted as it is not common parlance in the States, at least not the South.

Why do you feel it shouldn’t be used for towing on a paved public road?

The H motor comes with the never-officially-acknowledged Early Hill Warning System (EHWS). This insidious system actually starts slowing the vehicle down 1/4 mile before you reach even a modest ascent, completely ignoring the reality that you need to INCREASE momentum, not decrease it.

And it has a hidden EHWS force multiplier for trailers!

Yeah basically this. It's a slug. It will chug along all day at low speeds and is great off road. But for modern traffic and speed limits? Fuggetaboutit.
