You need the factory ball mount. They are on E-Bay cheap from time to time.

ryanrtxtx, yes I didn't have a reciever hitch that would fit due to hitting the spare tire either. I ended up putting hitch mount from my 1999 LC 100 on my 2005 LX 470, so now I've got two spots! The lower mount works better to level out a trailer, not sure how much drop the Toyota factory one has. I'll take a photo today and show the setup.
The factory trailer plug has to be moved, I've just zip tied it. That's kinda a small negative considering I can use most hitch recievers like the Anderson draw tight no sway weight distribution trailer hitch setup.
I would have to cut the hitch mount to fit the upper bumper mount. I wasn't sure I wanted to do that.

I should look Ebay to see if I could find one to fit the bumper hitch mount.

Where did you find a ball or bike rack that would fit in this without hitting the spare tire? I have tried to find anything that would allow me to use this hitch on my 04' LX and everything I've got bumps into the spare tire. So strange that Toyota would design something like this??

I found one at walmart that will work with the in rear crossmember mount on my 2004 LX

I’m looking to tow my new small bass boat (about 2,000 lbs with trailer) using the OEM crossmember towing hitch attachment on the rear bumper. However, there is a decent amount of rust on the crossmember area.

Any ideas for cleaning out the threads or whether the towing will be effected? Pics attached.

I found my wire brush and scrubbed the area well. Mostly surface rust that flaked off and the integrity of the metal seems solid.

Following up on the rusty in bumper mount area, I have the same issue, does anyone know offhand what thread size/pitch those bolts are? I have the receiver on the way and would like to chase the threads with a tap before install.
