None of the vehicles at dealers here are spec'd with trailer hitches. They have the wiring, and some sort of anti sway control stuff, but no trailer hitch. Does anyone know if the 2018 hitch will fit the 2022? They say no at the dealer, but it is the same truck basically. Thanks.

Not sure if you ever plan on going this route, but if get an after market bumper, it will come with the hitch. Or at least most of the manufacturers here include hitches in the design of their bumpers.

Thanks. I have not been super impressed with the quality of the non-factory stuff. Plus when you want to sell the truck, there is a much larger market for it if it is stock. Our 2018 is mainly a kid and dog hauler and road trip car. The factory hitch 9n it is awesome. If aftermarket is the only hitch I can get on a new 460 I might do it, but not my first choice at all for the reasons above.

You could probably take measurements off your 2018, I don't think it has changed. From what I know of manufacturing they would not change the frame unless the made major changes to the vehicle. My bet is it is the same.

They’re the same, but have been discontinued… your options are factory used or new curt class 3. I’d choose the latter… GX shouldn’t be towing more than 5000 lbs anyways.

I had the same thought. The 2022 has trailer anti-sway as an option and when I looked under the rear fascia at the dealer, they all appear to be wired for trailer lights with the same connector as previous. So they must have had a supplier issue with the factory hitches and I'm sure the previous year factory hitches will bolt right on. The removable panel in the fascia is still there also, for the receiver. I expect the new GX will be without transfer case and no longer body on frame, so 2022 is the end of the line for the old school truck.

I actually learned that the Anti Sway screen (with the cup of coffee) in the 2022 GX is actually just to see if you (the driver) are going from one side of the lane to the other.

It actually has nothing to do with a trailer. I figured it out as I've been towing a lot lately and wondered how it worked.

This is from page 94 of the 2022 GX Manual:

The hitch stopped being installed at the port back in the beginning of October.

I know this as my GX was supposed to have a hitch but it was removed from the build when it was processed at the port on 10/13/21.

I've been trying for months to get an OEM hitch but Lexus corporate still can't tell me when they'll be available.

With my parents moving I needed a hitch over the last 2 months so I bought the Curt. It works fine but it pisses me off that I had to spend $130 for a hitch that I didn't want when my GX was supposed to come with a hitch and Lexus won't tell me when I can actually guy the Class IV hitch that I should have gotten to begin with.

ETA: I just called Lexus again and surprise, surprise didn't learn anything. This is my first Lexus and probably my last. It makes no sense that they can't produce a tow hitch for a vehicle that hasn't changed in 12 years  It's been over 4 months since the Stop Sale was issued. So much for being available for purchase "in the near future". If anyone knows of another Class IV option for the GX/Prado I'm all ears.

I just sent Curt an email asking them to make a Class IV hitch for the GX. We'll see what they say.

Since the product page on Lexus has 2500 recent hits I'm thinking there's a market for them.

For offroad there will be a ton of options; ideally something otling into the stock hitch hard points with a receiver that also includes a platform for attaching a luggage box or similar. We run the Thule cargo box on back and it is pretty great, although the brake lights both went out and they do not sell replacements, and honestly it would be a lot less flimsy on a more solid mount (e.g. one support on each side rather than just slotting into the 2" alone.

I upgraded from a '21 to a '22 and took the hitch off my '21 and installed it on the new'22.

We will likely do the same. Purchase the car off lease and do what we want. It is tempting to buy a new one at the moment, as it is worth about 9k more than the buyout price, whereas the dealers are not charging that much over sticker.

Yes. You are better off finding a mid-level wholesaler to sell it to who would likely turn and flip it at Auction. You won't have to pay sales tax and they are looking to make less than a dealer, so you will get more out of the truck, money in your pocket. Carvana and Carmax have settled in and are not paying the same money they did 12-14mos ago.

They are still paying 10k over what I owe on the car. I shouldnt have to pay any tax if I sell it to them. The harder part is finding a dealer who will sell you a new one for a reasonable price.
