Hey everyone,

I live up in Wisconsin where the crime rate is pretty low, but the Deer on motor-vehicle assaults are pretty darn high. I was wondering if anyone has hit a large mammal with their FJ and what the results were?
I talked to Woody from the FJ Cruiser trail teams a few months ago, he told me he hit a deer going 65mph with an ARB bumper and it didn't do ANYTHING to the truck! So, what I'm wondering is if anyone else can drop a note about:

1. What you hit.
2. What kind of bumper you have on your rig.
3. What kind of damage you sustained.

I'm trying to decide if an aftermarket front bumper is necessary for my new FJ. Thanks.

Matt

I have not hit anything...knock on dash.

But, I did have a ARB on my Taco before I got the FJC. First 3 weeks of owning the FJC I had 4 very
close calls with deer. A week later I bought the ARB for the FJC.

My FJC is a daily driver and gets wheeled occasionally when my 40 is down. So the ARB purchase for it
was mainly for peace of mind living in a deer infested area.

HTH.

I took mine off to paint the silver stuff black, its all plastic, a couple small screws...so if you hit anything larger than a flying kitten its all going to break. A deer would most likely take everything back to the wheel wells off the front. Look at the install instructions for the after market bumpers, I think all pro has pictures and you'll see. 10lbs of plastic with a metal crossbar underneath.
My money is on the deer.

I hit a deer earlier this summer with my HJ with a stock bumper and there was not a speck of damage....on the truck that is.....sorry deer.

why yes, just tonight, but i was driving an f250

Heard of people hitting Moose and other large animals in New England. I heard the problem with hitting these very tall animals is that you take out their legs, and the 1200 lb animal lands on your hood/windshield. Luckily, I have never had a problem yet.

Do those little plastic wind powered horns to get deer out of your way work for other animals?

i can't say yes, but i had em on the lemon and the only time i hit a deer with it was after one had broken off (i was told you had to have both for them to be effective). i was living in a very deer populated area at the time.
