Someone mentioned in another thread DO NOT USE A FILE as it can cause vibration and mess the filament.
Others have suggested Dremmel.
Would like to hear your experiences with the method you're using and if you have had any issues with filaments at all.

I used the file on a leatherman. Took about 30 seconds per bulb. The file is a little more rough than a fingernail nail file. No issues in 12 months.

Thanks, That's what I wanted to hear. I was tinking in doing it exactly like that.

I used a cut off wheel..........no problems.

so your saying you had the wife do it for you? :D

John(who would not admit having a finger nail file......even if he did ;)

Fingernail file. Took about two minutes each bulb. No problem, great low beams.

99LX HIR's from Daniel Stern fit in low beams with no modifications at all.....no filing, no cutting, no nothing

That's weird. My 99 LX470 has H1 bulbs for low beams. Could mine have been an early model year change, or.......?

But as for the HIR high beams, same as you. Didn't have to file or trim anything. Went right in.

In my experience with the GE (John Deere) low beam HIR's that I did have to trim before I put in my 80, the Toshiba high beams looked already 9005 sized when I got them.

If I remember right, I didn't have to trim the high-beam Toshiba's I put in my 80 either.

Nope, just "borrowed" a nail file from the disorganized clump of various kit under the bathroom sink.
'course, when I was finished with it, she wouldn't have wanted it back so I threw it away.
:D
