The 1156 and 1157 are different bulbs. The 1156 is a single element bulb, generally for something like backup lights or side marker lights. The 1157s are dual element for combination applications such turn signals and brake lights.

Thanks Tom, but I am still a tad confused. If I want to replace my brake and my turn signals which do I need (or both?)? I know there are three bulbs in the tailight assembly (one for back ups).

I believe, although I am not positive, that there are 2 1157s and 1 1156 in the tail light assembly. Someone else may have to confirm that or just pop off the lense cover and look at the bulbs.

I don't know which bulbs are in the tailights of the 80, I took Daniel Sterns word that the backup lights are 1156, which should be correct.

The HIR bulbs are rated at 1000 hours low beam, 275 hours high beam. A standard 9006 bulb has a life expectancy of between 150 hours and 1500 (long life bulbs), so the HIR's should last every bit as long.

If anyone is interested in ordering, they better hurry up before the two weeks expires.

80 series Cruisers have 1 1157 and 2 1156's in each tail lamp. The 1157 is the "red" one and the 56's are turn and back up.

Got my bulbs, low beams and all of em in back. According to Daniel (same as what CDan said) 1 1157 and 2 1156, but the back up light is a 35w instead of 28w (it is a halogen).

Thanks again Cary!
