just gonna chime in with an observation. The 2L motor is obviously causing conflicting reports. The one thing I’ve not seen mentioned here, may be the reason. Altitude. I live above 10,000ft (3050m) in elevation. My close friend with this 2L motor in his imported Landcruiser has had plenty of head gasket issues. Anywhere with opportunities for high altitude driving may experience the same thing.
He would always point out the Top Gear episodes where they flog the hell outta that HiLux. Saying “All they had to do was drive it at high elevation, and they could’ve saved a lot of time!” I’m sure there’s folks who have run these up tall mountains just fine, but in my particular location, the cold & elevation are hard on these lil diesels.
