hey all, ive an LJ78, complete with 2lte and dodgy electric hubs.

ive come across a scrapyard with two sets of hilux aisin hubs, both in rough condition but apparently theyre easily servicable (?)

the light duty LJ is supposed to have hilux axles, does anyone know if the hilux aisins with fit an LJ?

regards,
Redd .

Depends on the model of Hilux.

Hliux can refer to one of any of about 20 different vehicles.

To remove the electric hubs, you either need adapters for the aisin hubs, or you need to change out the spindles, bearing hub, and small parts.

Hi All:

If the HiLux in question has a solid front axle get all the parts from the locking hubs back to the axle tube.

Chances are you can combine these parts with what are on the front axle of your LJ78 and make it work.

Good luck!

to install the Aisin hubs, you probably need the adaptor plates and you can get them from john at Radd.

cheers guys for the info.
when i was at the breakers i was after the steel landcruiser rims that were on the hilux, - i never thought to look at the axle.

while im here might i ask ye, will an lsd from a hilux fit a prado?

i read elsewhere on the net that any lsd from a toyota 8 inch diff will work on any other toyot 8 inch diff.

ive been reading into diff ratios etc., but its still a bit of a black art to me.

also, this guys confusing me more, he reckons his lsd will fit any Jap marque -

L.S.D diff for sale in Cork: €325 - DoneDeal.ie

maybe someone can enlighten me

regards,
Redd .

Hi All:

Nope, that LSD diff is smaller than the Toyota 8 inch.

Yes, any Toyota 8 inch third member should fit into another Toyota 8 inch axle. You do need to be aware that the gear ratio of the replacement diff will match your existing axle ring & pinion gears (unless you want to replace both front and rear diff gears.)

Regards,

Alan
