It’s not incredibly loud, but as the RPMs increase, the squealing gets louder and more constant. In drive or park, when I rev, it squeals. Belt going bad? Water pump failing?

If it keeps up with rpm it is probably the belt tensioner, or idler pulley.
Not crazy expensive parts. Best to replace the belt if you are doing the pulleys and if the belt has over 65k on it.
Open the hood and try to see if the noise is louder on one side of the engine, or it you can get an idea of where it is coming from

A mechanic’s stethoscope will help you pinpoint the issue of it is a pulley. As far as I know my idlers, fan support, and tensioner are all original with almost 140k and are smooth and silent. I recently put a belt on my truck so I had a good chance to see what condition they are in.

I don’t think these fail often but like I said that tool can help you figure it out

is it safe to drive before I can get it to the shop?

That is a judgment call. Depending on what’s wrong it could go just fine for thousands of miles.. OR the belt could break the next time you start it, stop the water pump, and potentially tear up other stuff if you get unlucky and the belt flops around

Maybe look closely and see if any pulleys are wobbling when running. When stopped, see if the fan is loose. It should be able to spin with some slight resistance, but if it feels like it is loose in any other way (like the bearing having any slack) that could be failing.

If it squeals more on cold start that’s a common sign of the belt being bad, usually not bearings.

Have any neighbors that can help diagnose?

If you do decide to drive it, pay very close attention to your voltmeter and water temp. If the belt does fail voltage will drop immediately and water temp will rise gradually.

I think I'm having the same problem.

From front of engine (facing car), the noise is coming from the passenger side - louder when revved.

Belt and / or puller - most likely???

DIY repair??
