high oil pressure

HI, I didn't quite trust the factory gauges on my 71 stock Fj40
so I installed a set of Autometer mechanical gauges. When I start the motor the factory goes to about 3/4 and the Autometer pegs past 100 lbs. with choke on, at idle about 40 but if I hit the gas it pegs again. Any idea what causes this high oil pressure?
Thanks

First thing that comes to mind is a sticking or clogged oil pressure regulator.

Go here: Oil Pressure Regulator This is a Link!!! Click it!!!: to see what I mean and see how to take it off, clean it and reassemble it. I don't believe rebuild kits are available, but the only replaceable part is just an O-ring that could be sourced from any good seal/bearing place.

The oil return line is teed into the oil pressure port. The hole on the picture on your site for the return line is open, with a slight drip when the car runs. Can I just plug that hole or does the return line have to go there? I did take the oil pressure assembly apart to check it and it was allowing the little piston to move. When I reassembled it I adjusted the spring tension out to hopefully bring down the pressure but it seemed to have no effct. Any other suggestions?
Thanks

First off, why in the world would someone plumb it that way?

Put it back the way it's supposed to be. That bottom hole is the filter return line and dumps straight into the oil pan. The way it's plumbed now it's trying to dump the oil back into the high pressure side. This will result in NO oil going to the oil filter and excessively high readings since the regulator is essentially bypassed.
Also, that open hole is allowing dirt to get in. (Not to mention letting oil out.)

Hi, I don't know why but that is the way it arrived. This is my first FJ and it's proving to be real interesting and unusual. I'll change them back to the factory configuration. Thank's for the response.

Well I changed the oil lines back to factory configuration and it still pegs the oil pressure gauge. Tried readjusting the preload spring to a much lighter tension and still pegs the gauge. I'm still open for any other helpful suggestions.
On a different note my local Toyota dealer did supply me with a new tinted windshield, local cost $285.00. According to his stock location system their are still 11 more in other warehouses.
