Hello,

I have just finished reinstalling my 4-speed transmission into my truck and noticed the high/low shifter knob decided to drop down into the case flush with the seal.

I figure I have three options:

1. Try and pry it out...Will definitely need to replace the seal as I will bugger it up.

2. Remove the back half of the case and push it up from the inside.

3. Magic super magnet...

Any experience out there with this?

Thanks,
Curtis

If you can't pry it up out of the case, then you're going to have to pull the case apart. I've heard that using a magnet works.

That is assuming a 4 speed case is a split case.

Thanks, I will open the case becasue I dont know where to get a magnet and the shifter seems pretty stuck...

Sorry, it is a split case.

Just get a good magnet on it and pull it up. If gravity pulled it down a magnet will lift it back up.

Is the transfer case installed behind the transmission in the vehicle currently, or is it sitting on a bench/floor?

This happened to me last weekend on a split case I had the output bearing tail housing off and was able to stick a screw driver though one of the holes in the low speed gear and with the case in high range i popped the lever back up. if it is in low range you can push the shift collar with that same screw driver into high range
